McManus Throughout our four years in Bed- ford High School, you have stood behind our class in all of our endeavors. As good sportsmanship displays fairness and co-operation, so have you demon- strated these qualities to us in our projects and activities. You have given us encouragement when others were skeptical, and have always shown us that you had faith in the character, in- tegrity, and unity of our class. You have given of your time and of yourself willingly and unfailingly. You have, at all times, regarded us with a genuine interest and respect. Now we, the Class of 1967, would like to acknowledge all that you have done for us by dedicating this, our Yearbook, to you. YEARBOOK STAFF ART STAFF Front Row: Lynette Rogers, Paula Little, Janet Stearns, Linda Markell, Linda Goguen. Standing: Cheryl Caughey, Frances Sweet, Edwin Chase, Christine Elliott, Paula Frado. PHOTOGRAPHY Steve Hill 5 MR. BERNARD GOLLIS, Assistant Principal ADMINISTRATION To The Class of 1967: Ralph Waldo Emerson says it much better than I. To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection, of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you lived. This is to have succeeded. If you have made the most of your educational opportunities at Bedford High School, you will find success as part of your life. Sincerely Yours, Edward H. Webber Mr. Genetti Mr. Taylor, Mr. Whelcn Bedford ' s football season started in low gear, but swiftly gained momentum and spirit. In the Buccaneers ' opening game, they had a heartening 10-0 loss to Ashland. Bedford fought hard to break through Ashland ' s defense, exhibiting this fight in Don McGrath ' s 40 yd. run, but it was to no avail. The Buccaneers rolled forward in their second game with an aerial blitz that stunned Acton into a 14-10 defeat. Dale Porter scored the first TD and was soon joined by Don McGrath , scoring a second. The team, now showing great promise, met Maynard and beat them 7-6. Greg Rich- ardson scored the TD, with Donny McGrath making the extra point. When Bedford met Westwood, the cause for Westwood was hopeless from the start. We began our scoring with a half-back pass from Dale Porter to substitute quarter-back Bob McGrath. This was the team ' s famous trans-continental pass play. Dale Porter and Bob McGrath topped this off by each scoring another TD, bringing the final score to a 20-0 victory. Lynnfield proved to be the team ' s equal in the next game, which ended 0-0. Both teams displayed a strong defense, which stymied all offensive thrusts. Numerous errors were the cause of our 7-7 tie, instead of a win, with North Reading. Dale Porter got the TD, with Donny McGrath scoring the extra point. The excitement-packed game against Wayland proved to be the Buccaneers ' best and hardest fought game of the season. The powerful drive in the last seconds of the game brought the excitement to a feverish peak, but time ran out with a score of 28-22. Greg Brzeski was the first to score points, on a pass thrown by Jimmy McArthur. Along with this. Dale Porter struck twice, scoring the last two TD ' s. The Weston game was the biggest upset in class D football this season. Bedford entered this game with spirit, but not expecting a win. TD ' s by Dale Porter and Jimmy McArthur, plus Donny McGrath ' s extra point, made the score Bedford 13, Weston 12. Weston scored its final TD in the closing seconds, but Bedford, mustering up its strength , halted their conversion attempt. Our traditional game with Burlington turned out to be cold turkey, a cut and dried game from the start. Our only TD was scored by Co-Captain Pete Chamberlain, on a pass from Jimmy McArthur. We lost it 28-6. The team ' s success rests in the capable coaching of Mr. Harry Drivas, under whose guidance we completed the season with a 4-3-2 record. Coach Drivas predicts a good season next year; however, many faces will be lacking. The Buccaneers will certainly miss the playing of seniors Peter Chamberlain (co-captain), Okie O ' Connell (co- captain), Dave Chamberlain, Dale Porter, and Donny McGrath. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
