The crest and crowning of all good, life ' s final star is Brotherhood. Make way for Brotherhood! Make way for man! The liberally educated man is one who can make wise decisions independently. He can choose between good and bad, truth and falsehood, the beautiful and the ugly, the worthwhile and the trivial. His educa- tion will improve his ability to make ethical decisions, political decisions, decisions within the home and on the job. It will enable him to make the many decisions necessary in planning a good life and conducting it properly. This is the man the Class of 1962 gives to the world — the man who will live according to the precepts of this crest and crowning of all good. I

The first goal in any activity of learning, be- yond the pleasure one derives from discovery and success, is that this learning should serve him in the future. Learning takes us somewhere, but it also allows us to go further more easily. It is a base which can be used in r ecognizing subsequent problems as special cases or variations of the ideas mastered in previous learnings. Thus, education may be considered to be a continual broadening and deepening or enriching of the basic knowl- edges in terms of ideas. Probably the greatest education the world needs today is a better understanding of the basic ideas of living in a world society and the applica- tion of this understanding to the constructive uses and proper control of the great discoveries in the field of science — discoveries which have very seriously shaken the stability of world situations. It is ironical that man with the highest levels of world education ever acquired, finds himself in a most precarious situation as a result of this educa- tion which has occurred apparently without the accompanying world growth in necessary social and cultural progress. Immediate attention to this phase of education, the broadening and deepening of basic ideas for social harmony, is necessary on the part of the learners the world over lest civili- zation be set back hundreds of years. You, the students of Bedford High School. Class of ' 62, will play an important part in govern- ment at local and broader levels however great or small your individual contributions may be. The acquisition of basic knowledges and ideas you have achieved will give you the potential for unlimited participation in the problems of the immediate fu- ture. MR. JOHN GLENN Superintendent of Schools

God gave us two ends, one to sit with and one to think with. Success depends on which one we use the most. Heads we win, tails we lose. —ROBERT MORGAN Mr. Morgan Mrs. Sullivan Mrs. Littleton Mr. Van Buren Mrs. Zalesnik
