MR. EDWARD H Principal Bedford Hig Bedford High School Bedford. MatsachuieUt CKi ttmm 4-7721 Edvard H • pal To The Class of 1959: Fortunately, or otherwise, you, the Class of 1959, and I live at a time when, in order to keep informed, the average individual has to know several times as much as he did only thirty or forty years ago. Being educated today requires more than a superficial knowledge of the arts and sciences. Education today, in terms of our larger needs, means preparation for world citizenship, which would have for its ultimate goals mutual understanding and respect among all men. What you have done in your classroom during the last four years will be reflected in the successes or failures of civilization tomorrow. I know that you have the foundation on which to build. I trust that each of you will use this foundation as a building block toward developing an individual who can meet the responsibilities which our complex civilization will thrust upon you in the future. Very truly yours, Edward H. Gillespie, Principal II

RREN D. BENNETT jntendent of Schools rd, Massachusetts Bedford Public Schools Bedford. Massachusetts 13 November 1958 To the Class of 1959 My c otne ncemen t congratulations to the Class of 1959 Include a sincere wish for success in whatever career you may follow. But - what is success ' A well-paying position, or comfort, or luxury is not the entire answer. Using your knowledge to benefit your fellow man will bring you much closer to living a fuller, happier life. True success comes to those who have a meaning to their lives and this can come but from accepting social and civic responsibilities. How can this Success be obtained? The world of sports provides a good example. In your daily living, as In sports, first egtablish high goals of achievement. Then, practice for perfection of performance, develop the inner drive to succeed, refuse to accept temporary defeats, but always remember that it takes team sp lit and co-operation to win the game. These practices will help you to overcome the disappointments and obstacles which challenge you along the road to success. Very truly yours. 10
