BENNETT jntendent of Schools rd, Massachusetts Bedford Public Schools Bedford. Massachusetts 13 November 1958 To the Class of 1959 My c otne ncemen t congratulations to the Class of 1959 Include a sincere wish for success in whatever career you may follow. But - what is success ' A well-paying position, or comfort, or luxury is not the entire answer. Using your knowledge to benefit your fellow man will bring you much closer to living a fuller, happier life. True success comes to those who have a meaning to their lives and this can come but from accepting social and civic responsibilities. How can this Success be obtained? The world of sports provides a good example. In your daily living, as In sports, first egtablish high goals of achievement. Then, practice for perfection of performance, develop the inner drive to succeed, refuse to accept temporary defeats, but always remember that it takes team sp lit and co-operation to win the game. These practices will help you to overcome the disappointments and obstacles which challenge you along the road to success. Very truly yours. 10 MR. EDWARD H Principal Bedford Hig Bedford High School Bedford. MatsachuieUt CKi ttmm 4-7721 Edvard H • pal To The Class of 1959: Fortunately, or otherwise, you, the Class of 1959, and I live at a time when, in order to keep informed, the average individual has to know several times as much as he did only thirty or forty years ago. Being educated today requires more than a superficial knowledge of the arts and sciences. Education today, in terms of our larger needs, means preparation for world citizenship, which would have for its ultimate goals mutual understanding and respect among all men. What you have done in your classroom during the last four years will be reflected in the successes or failures of civilization tomorrow. I know that you have the foundation on which to build. I trust that each of you will use this foundation as a building block toward developing an individual who can meet the responsibilities which our complex civilization will thrust upon you in the future. PREFACE: Alan Mac Intosh, mad scientist of Bedford High School, class of 1959, opens up the time capsule buried by the members of the human race to preserve the American Way of Life during the late twentieth century. Alan: Oh, yes, I remember Vinnie Yauckoes, he invented the twelfth position on the football team— that of a human goalpost. What does this newspaper clipping say? Bruce Damon was first man to reach Mars, and even there all the girls flocked after him. Meanwhile, back on earth, Sharon Christian receives fame as the first woman President of the United States. Sharon discusses her problems with the famous golfer, Larry Vietas the first to break 60 on the course. Frank Van Leathern, foremost architect, redesigns the White House (in pink and white) for Miss Christian. Shirley De Champ undertakes the position of secretary to the president. Phil Edwards has become a top-notch writer with his sequel to Wuthering Heights. Critic Don Stewart compares the characters in this outstanding book to some of his former classmates. Critic Stewart charges Edwards with copying material from the married life of Chris Barrett and Dick Porter. Chris and Dick Porter have a gigantic gorth head in their living room, given to them by the world famous explorer and hunter Thomas Dunham. This exploring expedition reminds me of another incident of a few classmates of mine. Robert Plantine, world revolutionist, aided by his indispensable Marine General-in-Chief, John Kearney, succeeded in taking over Russia and adding it as another state in the Union. Dave Brown, famous designer and his models, Muriel Mazzocca and Irene Antle, were touring Europe at this time. Brown succeeded in selling his fashions to the former Russian premieres, Pete Mc Neanu, and Les Hall, and staff. Eminent sociologist Joe Bumbaca has claimed that this has had good results on the world by eliminating potential Harvard graduates such as the late Bruce Mac Arthur (who died of Harvarditis) the mastermind of the famous multimillion- dollar Girdle Manufacturing business, Thomas Davin, and Philip Mc Govern, the famous originator of the black-out cocktail. Mac also pulls out a newspaper clipping which tells of the infamous Connie Gardini, who set a new record for invoking the Fifth Amendment. The judge was 41 Carl Weed, outstanding multimillionaire who is known to have made his fortune by collecting bribes. Jim Albani was also in court but for another charge. It seems that Jimmy was arrested by Chief of Police William Damery, for inciting a riot in the Purity Food Store, owned by the prominent business man Roy Harrow, be- cause there wasn ' t enough food on the shelves to cure his insatiable appetite. Hearing of this tragedy, the owner of Hanson-MacPhee, Bucky Dedrick, and his mechanical assistant, Merrill Thurber, rushed to the scene of the trial. Flowers, donated by Palmeri ' s Flower Shop, owned and operated by Bob Palmeri, decorated the courtroom. The court session was interrupted by a million dogs running and jumping throughout the room. It seems that Steph Wilson, known to everyone as the 1959 Class Clown released the dogs from the Shaggy-Haired Dog Kennel, owned by Linda Bottoms, the famous dog walker. Janet Cole and Betty Lou Goulart, famous legal secretaries, recorded the proceedings of this case. Richard Lehman and his sister Mary now have a partnership in the Bedford One-Stop Cleaners. Next door to the cleaners, Sandy Gates and Judy French have taken over Mike ' s Deli . . . Gopher Gut Special. John Snyer and Paul Norton supply the ingredients for Judy ' s and Sandy ' s Special from the Little Red Truck Farm, located near Richard Eisenhower ' s Greenhouse Incorporated, where Richie attempts to grow square tomatoes. Bob Fijal is now in Alaska supervising the Salmon Industry, which is owned by Andy Fay. Pam Jezukawicz and Martha Hammond are also in Alaska. Pam is practicing her skiing techniques for the Olympics, while Martha is designing a new style in skis— something with fins which goes along with this modern Missile Age. Lorraine Dunham is busy designing a new type of snow— a type, which does not have to be shoveled. Dean Mac Dowell is now taking over Charlie Jenkin ' s place in the 600 meet. Through the help of Larry Gault, his coach, Dean is progressing rapidly. Lillian Martines, Joan Ellen Smith, Carol Persall and Shirley Unsworth have succeeded in revolutionizing the state. These are our predictions for the futures of our classmates. This has all been written in fun, but who knows— it may come true one day.
