Bedford News Hello, Hello. Goodbye” The '86-'87 school year saw some major changes. Even though the school levy had been passed in February of 1986, the crisis was felt in class dele- tion. teacher cutbacks, and larger class- es. Two new Vice-Principals arrived and we lost a secretary. Things settled down until a pre-Thanksgiving garbage can fire in the South House. The anti- alcohol green bean” campaign foretold of our green Christmas break. The Cleveland Browns missed the Superbowl by one game and gave the town a joy- ride. While the first snowfall blanketed the city, thoughts reached towards Bedford's sesquicentennial and summer vacation. Deborah Jones, formerly an East Cleveland High School administrator, joined the Bedford High School staff as Vice-Principal. She feels that Bedford High is unique and finds working with young people directly is refreshing. Steve Bowman came to us from Shaw High School. He is happy and excited about the challenge to assist students and support teachers. As a resident, he is proud to work in a great school system. Betty Romito, the South House secre- tary, retired after 18 years of service. Her continuous work and support was the foundation of the South House. She will be missed, but our hopes for happi- ness are with her. Moody Jr. High School, the 65 year old former High School that was named after Mr. A.E. Moody, an early Bedford Schools' Superintendent, had been the setting for joy and education for 58 years. After closing in 1980. it was left vacant until an offer to purchase it was made in early 1986. However, the plans for it to become a nursing home fell through. Finally, in August of 1986, the Board of Education made the decision to demolish the decaying building. The stately structure gone, a large open field is left like an open wound at the site.
