Text from Pages 1 - 248 of the 1975 volume:

itli the passing of time, change is inevitable. Years ago. people lived in a society that was in- timate and leisurely. Simultaneously, rules were rigid and restrictions overwhelming. Today we are often entangled in an impersonal world of haste and confusion. el the complex structure of our society enables us to have more freedom and time for relaxation. Despite these contrasts between the people of past decades and our generation, we remain alike in our dreams. Those idealistic aspirations of a perfect existence persist, in spite of the dress and customs of the time. Our perspectives have changed, but we are hound to those of the past and the future with a dream. It is ours to discover. The 1975 Epic Volume 49 Bedford High School 481 Northfield Road Bedford, Ohio JESSES very one in bedtord knows where Tinkers B Creek runs through the Glens. To many of us it is a place for parties, romance, and fun. But the Creek had an even more im- portant role at the founding of Bed- ford. It was chosen as a site for several mills; the Gleeson Mills of the early 1800’s, Daniel Benedict’s sawmill of 1821, and Luther Willis’ grist mill built in 1825. Throughout the follow- ing decades the area around Tinkers Creek had a dual function as a place for work and entertainment. With the advent of modern electricity, the Creek is no longer needed for power, but it still holds its charm as a place of memories. ncen edifice of brick and stone located near the present day Central School. From this building came the first proud graduating class of five students. In the course of time. Cen- tral and Moody were also used as the High School. Finally the present structure of Bedford High was built to accommodate several thousand students. The progression of our school along with the town of Bed- ford typifies the changing culture throughout the United States. iversification and unity H characterize our school B BflE-j l lo(,a - Although each of us is involved in one of four varied areas of study: college preparatory, business education, in- dustrial and vocational education, or home arts, we all share the same moods and feelings of a modern stu- dent. Bedford High School has developed a great deal through the past century to achieve this status. It was established in 1885 in an ancient 8 Introduction porarv female has more time for careers, recreation, and studies. She can express herself creatively through the home arts, or remake a plain face into ravishing beauty with make-up and an original hair style. Freedom of dress allows her to compete in sports that she rarely and ineffective- ly participated in previously. Instead of taking a submissive role in politics and the business world, she dares to s.trive for positions formerly held by men alone. The man's role has also changed significantly. Now it is not unusual for a man to he interested in the home. These modifications of former social standards do not seek to break down male-female relationships, but only to strengthen them. 10 Inlro iuc-tion ut it is the children to which inspiration for many changes should he attributed. Their anima- tion and total honesty gives adults the incentive to create absurd mechanisms that become fantastic machines. Their example of pure love and friendship sustains peace in a world that would otherwise exist ir constant turmoil. The children are the ones who continually observe things and question them. They gather from tiie past and give to the future. They, more than anyone else, possess a unique companionship with every other child from each distinct era. They still ha e parades that attempt to out- do eaeh other, ami frequent picnics in the park. Children still delight in playing games, and old people re- main determined to perpetuate their traditions. Then there are always the people who sneak a drink or catch a buzz in private, while those in love share intimate secrets. Today as alwa s, these are important parts of everyday life that make it interesting and worthwhile. To be selected to appear in either section is a special salute to each individual, as these students have been screened through the most rigorous of testing grounds — the hearts and heads of those with whom they live and work each day — the senior class. ROSE HARRISON TONY BRANCAZIO Hall of Fame793 Hall of Fame Four years of involvement, dedica- tion, hard work, and achievement come to a climax at graduation. But for those who have truly put forth a winning effort, the road doesn't stop here. Those few will continue to exert the forces of these qualities throughout the remainder of their careers. The Epic Hall of Fame may be only the first in a series of recognitions for some, but it is an important tribute to he paid; for these ten have been chosen “winners” by their peers. DALE WHITE Dale's display of team effort and cooperation coupled with hard work has earned him recognition as one of Bedford's outstanding athletes. These qualities should help make the attainment of any future goals successful. JULIUS FEITL Known and recognized throughout the school as pleasantly mild- mannered, Julius has been an asset to Bedford in many areas. His aggressiveness on the football field and success as a track star are only two of the areas in which he has demonstrated his ability to succeed. % Ilall of Fame DOREEN DEMICHELE The sparkle in Doreen’s personali- ty has won her many honors. Not least among them was the reigning of the 1974-75 Homecoming festivities, which she accomplished with the beauty and flare she is accustomed to exhibiting. BRYAN JANKIRA Throughout his high school years, Bryan has gained recognition as a dedicated student and athlete. The strong efforts he put into wrestling for Bedford will long be remembered by his team and classmates alike. DEBBIE GOSHCO Faculty and friends are regularly greeted by the warmth of Debbie’s smile and the brightness of her at- titude. Election to that cherished position of Prom Queen is proof that her magnetic personality will be of valuable worth in the achievement of future successes. Hall of Famc 97 TOM H A B A Tom, considered to be a charmer by some and an “all around great guy” by most, has coupled these qualities with hard work in the sports arena and a sense of humor to main- tain a well-respected position among the student body at Bedford High. 4. CINDY ALLEN As a varsity cheerleader, Cindy was one of the girls responsible for recap- turing the spirit of Bedford High and passing it on to the student body. Even though her schedule was full, she found time to give and to put zest into all she did. SUE WALIGORSKI Barely did a discouraging word ever cross Sue’s lips as she met the often exasperating challenges of be- ing an active student at Bedford. An optimistic gleam in her eye, a strong sense of responsibility, and a high regard for her fellow man are qualities which will pave her way to a full and rewarding future. 98 Hall of Kami MARK POOTS As an athlete, Mark has already gained state and local fame, demonstrating strength of character which has long been noticed by facul- ty and classmates. His willingness to work and his ability to put others at ease are strong points which should lead him to a fruitful career. Hall of Fame Hall of Famers are selected on the basis of the following characteristics: 1) contributions to the senior class and Bedford High 2) superlative qualities 3) dedication 4) leadership 5) sincerity 6) personality and 7) hard work But more importantly, they have been judged on the merits of their everyday living by teachers, and classmates. DAVE PILARCZYK Athletic recognition has brought Dave’s personality strongly into focus among students at Bedford. The ex- perience of long, hard hours of train- ing and perseverance on the football field have helped to prepare him for the securement of future ambitions. Hall of Fa me 99 Karen Rcpko James Rich She'll never know about that patch that fell out. I tv earhook dedicant, as chosen by the graduating class of 1974-75, is Mr. Wi lliam Fudge. Mr. Fudge has become familiar to the majority of seniors through his close work with Student Senate and through the enrollment in his various history classes. Sophomores, juniors and seniors alike have come to count on his ever-present sense of humor in times of stress and non- stress, and on the willing ear he lends to students with problems and to students with no problems. Blessed with the elusive quality of charisma, Mr. Fudge is as successful talking to a large group as he is working with students on a one-to-one basis. It is these qualities and more which have this year combined to make him the favorite of the seniors.
