Miss Anthony, Mr. Litzinger and Mr. Motto strive to teach everyone in the department the newest and fastest methods of modern The importance of orderliness in secretaries. The Commercial course of Bedford High is devoted to making successful business peo- ple. You begin typing in the middle of your Sophomore year. By the time you are a Junior, you have mastered the keys by knowing the finger placements, In your Junior year you also have shorthand, bookkeeping and office everything is constantly impressed upon all students in our Commercial Department. Here we see two students attempting to build up skill in filing. This is a skill which requires much practice if one is really to become proficient, There are few things that exasperate a business man more than having his secretary unable to find quickly a paper she has filed. The instructors in the commercial depart- ment make certain that each student is well qualified before placing their stamp of approval on him or her. 1231 practice which teaches you the use of ma- Chines. The Junior year of shorthand is spent learning to read and write the correct symbols. Emphasis is especially placed on the way you write the symbols on the paper. The Junior year of typing is learning how to place business letters correctly on a page, Speed tests are also useful in building up your typing speed and illiminating errors. ln your Senior year you learn to master typing and shorthand as well as you can. But there is always room for improvement. S

COMMERICAL l JOSEPH LITZINGER JOSEPH LITZINGER received his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State Teachers College in 1956 and came to us in the fall of the same year. Here he teaches office practice, typing, Junior Bus- iness training, and Sales and Ad- vertising. His home town is Johnstown, Pa. These students are master- ing the fundamentals involved in operation of a typewriter. The first task is to master the keyboard so one may type without having to look at the machine. After the keyboard is mastered, the next problem is to gain speed while main- taining accuracy. Other fac- tors must also be mastered such as eveness of touch, rhythm, and neatness. Good typists, such as B. H. S. turns out, are always in demand. at-E MARJORIE ANTHONY MISS MARJORIE ANTHONY carned her Bachelor of Science de- gree from the University of Pitts- burgh in 1950.
