SENIDR CLASS HISTORY CLASS COLORS! Maroon and White CLASS FLOWER! Rare ' CLASS Mo'rTo: Vincenne:'et uieturef' CConquering and still to conquerj N THE fall of 1927, about the middle of September, there was great disturbance in Beckley College. Do not wonder what it was all about, it was merely the Class of 1929 entering. We were right in front, ready to show the Seniors who we were and why we were here. We were not here long however, until the Seniors began to put us in our place, as they unwittingly said. Well, if that didn't take some of our dignity from us, what wouldn't? And es- pecially walking the streets in undignihed outfits and doing silly things that would add to their amusement, but subtract from our sense of humor-all uncalled for Cto usD. By the time Freshman customs were over in November, we had organized a strong, cooperative class. Our officers were: Prerident ........ DAVID MURPHY Vice-President ...... FRANK ROTH Second Vice-Prerident . . . ALFRED ANNEAR .fecremqy ..... . . MAY H. MILLER Treasurer ..... . . ALFRED MCCOLLOUGH Anixtant Treamrer .... ETI-IEL MCCOLLOUGH Clears Hirtorieuz . . . . PAUL KELLEY Faculg' Advixer ..... DEAN SMITH We were already showing the Seniors what we could do. Our class- mates were pursuing courses in Accountancy, Teacher Training, Business Administration, and Secretarial Science. Big social functions, such as had never before been given in Beckley College, were held. We gave a Jinx Dance, something indeed original, a Valentine Dance, a Roller-Skating Party, and other social functions. We were victorious over the Seniors in the Snowball Battle, Dancing Contest, and the Tug-o'-War. Our junior Prom was the best in the history ofthe school. Success! Everything was a success the whole year through. But what swelled our hearts with pride was the fact that our Class was the First to present Beckley College with a Memorial. This deed ended our first year but we were ready to come back to the second year with the same en- thusiasm and Class spirit. -:II 42 Il! 1 . ,Xi Q. .l fi-I, Li Z . U 1 O A: NJ f-, 1' ' f . f 'Z' !
