The West Chester game proved disas- trous to Beckley College. In the opening minutes of play, three of the Varsity members of the team were forced to leave the game on account of injuries. As a result, the team was weakened and Beck- ley lost 24-7. The game was featured with a few fistic encounters and many spec- tacular plays, but the breaks were against us and nothing could overcome their early lead. With a record of four victories, two defeats, Beckley met the strong Ursinus Frosh team on the Academy field. The team was ironed out during the week of practice following the West Chester game and was rating to go. The fans and rooters of the team thought that Ursinus would be easy stuff for Beckley and a few more were under the impression that they would enter the game over-confident, but not so. Coach Snell and his cohorts had Ursinus measured accurately and the team entered the game with the same fighting spirit that they were noted for and came out victorious. Score 8-O. The Bucknell game was a defeat in figures but a decisive victory in morals. The Bucknell Squad was completely out- played in the first half but in the football -'al 254 Ia--

Villanova, if you will - recall, was Beckley's greatest rival last year, and the game ended O-O deadlock. It naturally was looked forward to, being the greatest game on the home field this season. They came to Harrisburg with such stars as Terry of Mt. Carmel, all-scholastic full back of 1927, Dellabredia, guard on All- state Champion's team of 1927, and others of high school and preparatory school fame. But that old grit and fight which prevailed in Beckley's 1928 machine over- came every obstacle in their path, and ran rough-shod over their opponents. When the final whistle blew, Beckley's colors flew high over the Island field, with a score of 19-O tucked safely under their belts. Millersville afforded the next opposi- tion, but the team was in the pink of condition and its spirits were high as a result of the victory over Villanova, and as a result they pinned another victory to the list. Score-12-6. The score was tied 6 all, at half-time, and after a fiery talk by Coach Snell, the Beckley boys returned with renewed strength and vigor and could not be halted in their charge toward the goal-line. On the defense they just forced Millersville to punt at all times. ., ... gil., 2.5.3 .

world, there is known such a thing as breaks. The f1rst break came as a result of a fumble by one of the Beckley players and was scooped up by a Bucknell- ian who carried it over the last chalk-line. This disheartened the team a bit and for the first time during the season they lost that great asset to their football success - fight, They did stage a comeback in the last quarter and when nearing the goal-line lost the ball again on a fumble. The final game of the season was played at Bellefonte with Bellefonte Academy as the opposition. Everything was against the possibility of Beckley scoring a vic- tory on this once world championship eleven, in Preparatory ranks, as they had beaten Bucknell and other college elevens in the early part of the season. But Beck- ley entered the' game with the same old fighting spirit and with the motto before them- A team is not beaten until the final whistle blows. Beckley scored on Bellefonte which was more than many bigger aggregations had done previously, but Bellefonte's trick plays proved a little too much for Coach Snell's cohorts and they were defeated 21-7. The season of '28 was, however, one of the most successful seasons in the history of Beckley College. ' ' ' . ' .mwah .J'E,.1fi I-:xl 255 Ia--
