4,4 1944 ie Wcetw As a shy and wondering, but promising group of freshmen, the class of '44 gained their first impressions of high school life. From their ranks stepped Margaret Stark, drum majorette, and jean Godwin and Robert Myers, debaters, who continued to win honors throughout the four years. Under the advisorship of Miss Sweeney, Miss Sanford, and Mr. Mills, they lent their ardor and energy to the support of all service proiects. Welcoming the incoming frosh with a gay Quiz Party, they set the pace for a successful sophomore year, contributing Roberta Pomeroy, pianist, Dona 'Lee Sawtell, song leader, and Felix Rosch, manager, to the roll of student body officers. Miss Irwin, Miss Barnes, and Miss Zurcher guided the class. Entering fully into school activities as juniors, they were outstanding in many ways. A dozen iunior boys won recognition in sports. With a Sophisticat1on theme, the junior prom was held in the atmosphere of an exclusive country club. The class was supervised by Miss Duff, Miss johnson, and Mr. Webb. Feeling justly victorious, with more service numerals to their credit than any other class, as seniors they again played prominent roles in sports, scholastics, music, debates, drives, and dances. Queen Jean Godwin royally ruled at the Girl Reserve Spring Reign, Gene Springer completed his athletic career by capturing letters in all three major sports, and Robert Myers won district honors in oratory. Miss Conoly, Miss Sanford, Mr. Duncan, and Mr. Metzler aided the seniors, who will receive diplomas in an impressive ceremony Friday, May 26. OFFICERS lsr SEMESTER Gene Springer ,... .. .
