Work and persistence are important to success, but there is, nevertheless, the element of chance. There will be times when you may be dis- couraged because somebody else seems to be getting along better. If you have spent your time at work and with honest effort, you must remember that possibly it is by chance that someone else seems to be more successful. Or, if life gives you unusual- ly good opportunities, this does not give you an excuse for resting on your oars. It means that much more is expected of you than of someone else. You must give more back to the world in return. I trust this advice will be as valuable as the advice given by a lawyer to his client who called from the state penitentiary and complained, They’ve shaved my head, cut slits in my trouser legs, and rolled up my sleeves. Now what should I do?” My advice to you, the lawyer answered, is don’t sit down.” BEST WISHES, MRS. RUTH WENGER Custodians Our two industrious janitors, Jules and Don, can be seen daily in the halls sweep- ing, dusting, and polishing. They have kept our school looking spotless at all times. Bus Drivers Since Beaverhead County High School has many students living in rural areas, a number of qualified bus drivers are needed to provide transportation to school each day. They also took students to out- of-town sports events and other activities. Secretary Mrs. Ruth Wenger, our faithful and patient secretary of Beaverhead County High School, always has a cheerful smile for the students. She performs her many duties each day with effici- ency and capability. Baseball was the first sport of the season and honors were captured by the sophomores, who also netted the volleyball tournament. The frosh showed that they were not to be outdone either by stealing the basketball title for the year. As for track, the girls went all out for it and participated in track meets at Bozeman and Western Montana College, Dillon. Conducting the affairs of GAA were these outstanding leaders: President, Judy Seidensticker; Vice president, Adele Rebich; Secretary, Marta McGovern; Treasurer, Cathy Crosser; Sports Manager, Terry Hazelbaker; and Sponsor, Mrs. Jan Black. One hundred and forty voices promoted school spirit and sportsmanship at the games this year. GIRLS’ PEP CLUB Displayed Enthusiasm The Girls’ Pep Club, wearing gold sweaters and white skirts, formed a colorful, en- thusiastic cheering section at football and basketball games. They strengthened the school spirit with their fine performance at all the games. During the chilly football season, the Girls’ Pep Club sold cocoa and coffee. Officers for the year were President, Margaret Stahl; Vice President, Jean Saito, Secretary, Michelle Stewart; Treasurer, Judy Dodd. Mrs. Jan Black was the sponsor. BOYS’ PEP CLUB Added Cheering Impetus A great help to the cheering section at Beaverhead County High School this year was the Boys' Pep Club. Under the leadership of Mike Sevalstad, Marc Sanders, John Schuler and Kerry Koenig, these boys gave the football and basketball teams the much-needed extra support so necessary in the success of a team. This group of enthusiastic rooters helped to cheer the Beavers on to victory. Linda Sanders, Kathy Cornish, Adele Rebich, Robin Bonneau, and Danette Hawkins. CHEERLEADERS Reveled in School Spirit The traditional spirit of the Beavers surpassed in intensity and spirit that of any pre- vious year ; that fact was due in great part to the talents and dedication of the five snappy cheerleaders -- Robin, Kathy, Danette, Adele and Linda. This year the cheer- leaders wore classy white and blue pleated skirts and blue and gold sweaters, pur- chased through their own money-making efforts . The peppy B squad cheerleaders in their new blue skirts and white sweater outfits boosted the ’’Trappers spirit at the JV games this year. With the aid of their jingle- jangle tambourines, these four girls -- Mary, Bertha Gay, Cathy, and Laurie -- led the Trappers” to a successful basketball season. Due to an unfortunate mishap, Mary Barrett broke her ankle during the season; Susan English, alternate, served very capably during the time Mary was recuperating. Much spirit was added to the Beaver football games by the Boys' Pep Club under the cheerleading leadership of Kerry Koenig, Phil Hawkins, and Tom Pierce. i t B Squad Cheerleaders Boys’ Cheerleaders KNEELING: Mary Barrett; STANDING: Kerry Koenig and Phil Hawkins.
