Sponsored by George Brown and the Tribune Senior Class History September 2, 1952 was a big day for seventy-nine frightened bewildered freshmen, as we entered the doors of BCHS to begin the long climb up the years in high school. We went through the various phases of initiation, from diapers and long underwear to the dance given in our honor by the sophomores. The upperclassmen were very amused as we crossed the auditorium stage, just as we were to do four years from then, but wearing slightly different garb then. Pete Miller was chosen as president of our freshmen class, with Judy Holm- lund, vice-president; Marlene Westad, secretary; Dalene Lessey, treasurer; and Vonda Jones, yell-leader. Marilyn Smith and Craig Cornell were elected to Beaver Lodge, and Stephen Foster represented our class in Student Council. Harvest Queen candidate was Judy Holmlund, and George Featherly was initiated into B Club. Our class sponsors that year were Mr. Scott and Mrs. McCullom. We started our sophomore year with more self-confidence than we had the year before. Ours was the privilege of initiating the incoming freshmen, and we gave the first dance of the year, which was in their honor Members of our class began to appear in many of the various clubs of the high school, and some of them were elected officers of these organizations. George Featherly and Richard Wenger were given the honor of being welcomed into Key Club, the most important boys’ club of the school. Norm Wight was elected president of Pep Club, and Carolee Kambich was reporter of FHA. She was also chosen as one of four girls to represent the school at the State FHA Convention in Missoula. Bea Benson was initiated into Thespians, and Craig Cornell became a member of BClub. Carol McMannis and Bea Benson received the highest honor of the year, that of being the first member of our class that were initiated into National Honor Society Officers that year were Pete Miller, president; Lyle Eliason, vice-president; Roberta Wright, secretary; Craig Cornell, treasurer; and Dalene Lessey, yell- leader. Carol McMannis and Dottie Andersen were representatives in Student Council. Beaver Lodge Committee members were Gail Gray and Billy Mitch- ell. Dalene Lessey was the Harvest Queen candidate. Mr. Scott and Miss Gille - land sponsored our sophomore class. Eager to become active in the activities of our school, we began our junior year as upperclassmen for the first time. We weren't silly little underclassmen anymore, now we could be looked upon with respect from at least some of the freshmen and sophomores. Pete Miller again held the position of president of the class of '56. Vonda Jones was vice-president, Margie Holland became secretary-treasurer, and Norm Wight was yell-leader. Student Council members were Gail Gray, Gene Stone, and Roberta Wright. Color Guard alternates chosen were Dottie Ander- sen, Gail Gray, Janet Johnson, Beryl Remely, George Saito, Craig Cornell, Jer ry Dodd, and Lyle Eliason. Seven of our athletic-minded boys became members of B Club. Those chosen for their outstanding work in athletics were Bill Mitchell, Steve Foster, Norm Wight. Raymond Hoy, Jerry Dodd, Jack Giles and Gene Stone. Our junior year found Carolee Kambich president of FHA, Craig Cornell president of Ski Club and Barry Remely co-editor of the Beaver. Janet Johnson was selected as the best actress of the year for her portrayal of Pernett in the all-school play, The Happy Days . Margie Holland was our candidate for Harvest Queen, and Vonda Jones and Dalene Lessey were chosen as cheerleaders by the student body. George Saito and Margie Holland were initiated into the highly respected position of Honor Society members. Welcomed into Key Club were Craig Cor- nell, Steve Foster, Lyle Eliason and Norm Wight Dottie Andersen and Vonda Jones represented our class at the State FHA Convention in Helena. The biggest project of our junior year was the Junior Prom. We chose Co- tillion as our theme, and decorated the gymnasium in all the hues of the rain- bow. We started a new tradition for the junior class, that of giving a Junior- -Senior Banquet in honor of the seniors. Berry Remely acted as master-of-cere- monies for this big occasion, which was held the evening of the Prom. Carolee Kambich, Gail Gray, and Darlene Reamer were chosen by the fac- ulty and Junior class girls to attend Montana Girls State at Rocky Mountain Col- lege in Billings. Margie Holland and Judy Holmlund were elected alternates. Chosen by the faculty to attend Montana Boys State on the campus of Western Montana College fo Education were Craig Cornell, Steve Foster, Bary Remely , George Featherly, George Saito, Gene Stone, Lyle Eliason, and Normie Wight. Alternates for this important event were Bill Mitchell, Tom Theil, Jerry Dodd, Richard Wenger and Harold Mugaas. Sponsors leading us through our junior year were Mr. Day, Mr. Pannuto, and Mr. Posey. And now, here we were, seniors at last. How can anyone forget the thrill of being a Most honorable and almighty senior... . During our four years here at BCHS, we lost several members of our class, but new transfers were welcomed to join ranks of being members of the class of '56. Transfers during our senior year included Donna Held, Ken Rose, Bud Riehboff, and Dorothy Baldry. Many members of our class were elected to be leaders of organizations of the high school. Among them, Craig Cornell was chosen president of Key Clufc George Saito was president of both Honor Society and Chemocrats. Jim Mar- chesseaultheaded FFA, Margie Holland called German Club meetings to order, Dottie Andersen was president of Pep Club, George Featherly was elected pres- ident of the BCHS band, Gail Gray was elected president of GAA, and Normie Wight became president of Ski Club. Gail Gray was our candidate for Harvest Queen, and we were very proud of her when she was crowned Queen the night of the annual Harvest Ball. Margie Holland also gave us a reason to be happy, when she was crowned Sweetheart Sweetheart of the Sweetheart Ball. Our athletic teams were capable lead by members of our class, with Craig Cornell and Jerry Dodd chosen as co-captains of the football team, Billy Mithc- ell captain or our basketball team and Gene Stone captain of the track team Margie Holland and Carolee Kambich were chosen by the faculty to edit the yearbook,the biggest project of our senior year. Barry Remely held the position of Editor of the school paper,The Beaver. Barry Remely was elected Student Body President, Pete Miller was vice-pres- ident, Gail Gray became secretary, and Lyle Eliason was treasurer of the Student Body. The last members of our cl ass given the honor of becoming members of Honor Society were Carolee Kambich, Stephen Foster, Craig Cornell, Dorothy Ander- sen and Vonda Jones. Stephen Foster, George Saito, Lyle Eliason, Tom Thiel, Bea Benson, Dottie Andersen, Margie Holland and Carolee Kambich were chosen to attend High School Week in Bozeman. Final officers chosen to head our class were George Saito, President; Pete Miller, vice-president; Carolee Kambich, secretary; Norm Wight, treasurer; and Gene Stone, Yell-leader. Student Council members were Stephen Foster, Tom Thiel and Bill Mitchell. Jerry Dodd and Thais Lightfoot became Beaver Lodge Committee members. Now that commencement has passed, and we are no longer students of BCHS, it is deeply hoped that our days here will not be soon forgotten. We have not only grown educationally since our first days here, but we have also become better citizens of our great country. We look back on our days of being students of BCHS with pride and humbleness. All of us sincerely hope that we have given something to our school that will keep us in its memory forever.
