OHIO BEAVER TALES VOLUME IV Yearbook Staff Co -Editors Lynn ell - - Sandy Bordewisch - -DeBra Bill Barthelemy Tom Beal Diane Blotner Bruce Buehler Lynne Carrier Linda Cason Janie Geswein Marie Gillott Judy Kegley Dian Love Julie Newhouse Charlotte Rose Bonnie Waters Phyllis Zarna Advisor--Mrs. Ruth Neff The SPIRIT OF BEAVERCREEK was chosen as the theme of the '62 yearbook, because school spirit which is so very important to a school is very evident at Beavercreek. E The SPIRIT OF BEAVERCREEK is depicted throughout the book by the usage of the Beaver Mascot. Each year the Pep Club selects a SENIOR boy to fill the Beaver suit and act as the mascot for that school year. This year Buddy Leonard iills the orange corduroy suit with the black ears and the broad black tail. The Beaver can be seen helping the cheerleaders at football and basket- ball games, at pep assemblies, and sometimes roaming through the halls. Now as you look through the book we hope you will also be filled with the SPIRIT OF BEAVERCREEK. The faculty is indeed a part of the SPIRIT OF BEAVER- CRE EK . 10 ouRRlcuLuM '62 Even the spirit has to study. Dramatics develops talent to efficiency. Mr. Polony shows some interesting pictures of Germany to his German II class. Since this is a small class, individual learning is much greater and faster. One of the phases of health is leaming artificial respiration through first aid. Secretarial Practice teaches the duties of a secretary. The picture illustrates shorthand, trans- cription, and various typing jobs. New math equip- ment is a worthy investment. The Underclassmen hurry and scurry between classes. UNDERCLASSMEN For the JUNIORS, the excitement of their first Prom, sparkling new class rings on proud fingers, preparation for their senior year together, all totaled up to a year of highlights for the class of 1963 . For the SOPHOMORES, the adventure of planning the homecoming and the excitement of ordering their class rings accompanied them as they advanced through their second year of senior high. For the FRESHMEN, the memories of their first year in high school mingle pleasantly with the anticipation of the years to come . 9 Eating lunch is one of the highlights Everyone smiles when the photographer of the school day. comes around- Donna Haines, Secretary Don Axe, Tre asurer A moment of pride for the JUNIORS is displaying their proud possessions--their class rings. When the cheerleaders and football team run onto the field and the band plays Onward Beaver, everyone is filled with a school pride and spirit that cannot be surpassed. The pep rallies for the basketball team and the individual sports such as wrestling and golf allow each student to enter into the enthusiasm. The strife for school fame such as winning the league title in cross country and having a successful baseball season increases the awareness of school spirit. As in track and tennis, teamwork is essential in all the sportsg and this working together is quite an addition to Beaver's school spirit. The athletic teams represent our school and with the backing of the student body, the SPIRIT OF BEAVERCREEK will never die . 351 ef mls 2 .ng baskets 3 1 ' . ands mal'-1 Swan-i Pow. A GREAT FOOTBALL TEAM The football team of 1961 will be remembered not only for its drive and determination but also for its unusual situation. This includes the Winning of the Mid-Miami League title and then having the title taken away. Although not having a sensational season, the Beavers found themselves with a 4-1 league record, which gave them the crown. Later it was found that an ineligible player on another team gave the title to Monroe . Although filled with sorrow at the loss, the Beavers are still considered the champs by the student body . This team did not have a fabulous season, but it went to the final league meet with a desire for victory that could not be beaten. Both the varsity and the reserve boys won! Coach Moran and his young team of only three years deserve congratula- tions. Their per- formance has shown promise of a suc- cessful future in the field of cross coun- try at Beavercreek. Many of the clubs enable the students to show off their special talents, some help the school and community, and others are purely social. Clubs help a person without his realization of the fact. Clubs take their mem- bers frorn the realm of study, study, study to the more well-rounded program of study, study, relax. As the clubs of Beavercreek grow, so grows the SPIRIT OF BEAVERCREEK. Remember , . . How eagerly we awaited the first sock hop. The victorious homecoming game and the dance in the new cafeteria. How our lunch hour was extended so that we could satisfy our curiosity when the new building was completed. How we all chanted burn the Eag1es as the paper eagle was tossed into the flames at the huge bonfire before the Chaminade football game. The first dreaded day when we received report cards. How relieved we were when the study halls were moved from the gym to the new addition just in time for the first basketball game. I-low the cheerleaders' new bright orange uniforms clashed with the old Beaver suit. The beautiful decorations at the Snowflake Fantasy, all the fun we had during Christmas vacation, and how we hated to go back to school. How proudly the school colors were worn on School Spirit Day. How we planned to celebrate at the game and dance Friday after exam week, and how disappointed we were when the game was canceled because of snow. How the school was plastered with campaign signs during the Student Council elections. How loud we cheered during the crowning of our Queen of Hearts at the half-time ceremonies of the Wayne basketball game. The cheerleaders' original astronaut cheer at the last pep rally. How much fun we had doing the polka and acting crazy at the Slop Hop which ended TWIRP week. How hard we laughed at the teachers' impression of a typical high school classroom at the Variety Show. The hilarious disguises and the line in front of the kissing booth at the Mardi Gras. How cold it tumed on Friday, April 13th, the day of the Prom, and despite this all the fun and excitement we had at the Mystic Cascades. How we were all busy as Beavers washing windows and decorating the school for the OASC Conference, and how proud we were of our Student Council, our school spirit, our student body, and our beautiful building after it was all over. And remember . . . We were all a part of the SPIRIT OF BEAVERCREEK. Is this the basketball court? 82 Foreign exchange students enjoy American Christmas festivities. Hildebrecht Braun, sponsored by the Church of the Brethren, came from Neuendettelsau, Germany. He lived with the Wilverts the first semester and the Beals the second semester. Hildebrecht especially enjo ed the American sports and was a mem- Y ber of the wrestling team. Both Fiona and Hildebrecht enjoyed the fast-moving pace of American life and participated in many school activities. They have made many lasting friendships and re- gret leaving Beavercreek and the United States. Each of them has contributed much toward the SPIRIT OF BEAVERCREEK. Fiona and Hildebrecht reminiscing over memories of home. 83 FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS For the first time this year, Beaver- creek has enjoyed the thrill of having two foreign exchange students attending our school. Miss Fiona Noble was sponsored by our Student Council through the Ameri- can Field Service. She came from Capetown, South Africa, and lived with the Earles during her stay. Fiona loved slumber parties, played on the GAA interscholastic volleyball, basketball, and tennis teams, and attended the JCOWA study tour to New York and Washington, D. Four hundred delegates from all over the state of Ohio attended the Ninth Annual Convention of the Ohio Association of Student Coun- cils on April 26th, 27th, and 28th. Delegates were housed with families in the school district. A mixer dance was held Thursday night in the cafeteria. The dele- gates had two general business meetings Friday followed by a banquet and a dance with jour- ney to a Small Planet as the theme. Cfficers were elected at the third general meeting on Saturday, and the O.A.S. C. flag was presented to the 1963 host school. The conference closed after a luncheon at l2:3Op.m. in the field house The success of the conference was attributed to the help and cooperation of the student body and the community.
