CLASS HISTORY On September 2, 1947, We entered the doors of Beaver Vocational High School-thirty-nine rather green-looking freshmen. In a short time the class of '51 was a going organization. Our officers were: Richard Dean, president, John Hassinger, vice-president, Amber Hassinger, secretary-treasurer, and Twila Aigler, assistant se-cretary-treas- urer. The faculty was: Mr. Marlan Shearer as principal, Mr. George Fetterolf, Mrs. Sarah Charles, Mrs. Jean Kline, Mr. John Slegeski, Mrs. Donna Walker, Miss Betty Jane Herr, Mr. Daniel Womer, and Mr. H. Daniel Baylor who came to taske the place of Mr. Wo:mer, who resigned from the facu.lty. Mrs. Kline and Mrs. Charles were our class advisors. Our first class activity was a booth at the Beaver Fair, held September 18, 19, 20. Our booth was entitled Safety in the Home, and we won third prize. January 14, 1948, the whole student body attended the Farm Show at Harris- burg, and the next activity was the Fashion Show on January 23, in which all the freshmen girls participated. For our assembly we presented a radio program of short skits. The musi-c department activities included the County Chorus at Middleburg on March 19, Forensics on April 2 at Selinsgrove, and the Spring Concert on May 7. . The Junior-Senior Prom was held May 13. Being our first Prom it was a very thrilling event. Baccalaureate services were held May 23 and Commencement May 28. Thus, we saw one lclass complete their four years at Beaver while we had completed one short year. We had many experiences that year which helped us to become better students throughout the rest of our high school days. During the year We lost seven of our classmates-Phyllis Hornberger, Betty Weader, Richard Dean, Mae Snook, Charles Brouse, Hoover Herman, and Russell Lefpley. We gained one member, Wayne McCardle. - When we returned on August 30, 1948, to start our second year at Beaver we had a total of thirty-one members. Robert Wagner, Milton Yetter, and Walter Zechman did not return but we were joined by Phyllis Peters who 'moved into the community from Lewistown. Our officers were: John Hassinger, president, Anna Louise Dreese, vice-pres- identg and Mary Ellen Krebs, secretary-treasurer. -Changes in the faculty were Mrs. Irene Benner for Mrs. Charles and Mr. James Howell for Mr. Slegeski. Mr. Fetterolf was our class advisor. The Beaver Fair was held September 23, 24, 25, and we won second prize on our booth entitled High Prices and Inflation. Our assembly was in the form of a living room party with an orchestra, sing- ing, and a skit. There were several special assemblies-A debating team from Bucknell Uni- versity, two speakers, also from Bucknell-the one spoke on Divorce and the other on Conservation of Our Natural Resources -and Mr. Harvey Murray gave a talk on The Highways of Pennsylvania. Our moneyemalking activities during the year were selling Easter cakes and having an eating stand at a sale in Beaver Springs. Both activities 'proved profitable. We 'received our copies of the first edition of The Brook on May 6, and how wonderful the days that followed! Everybody was so busy getting their books autographed since this was a new tradition started at Beaver. The Spring Concert was held May 6, and the County Chorus at Selinsgrove on May 16. The Junior-Senior Prom was held in the gym May 12. May 18 our class journeyed to Sunbury to visit the Sunbury Daily Item, the Butter-Krust Bakery, and Fort Augusta. In the evening we roller skated at Island Park and everybody had a wonderful time. Baccalaureate Services were held May 15 and Commencement May 20. Now the class of '49 was gone and we were half way through our high school days. During the year Paul Bowersox left for another school and Anna Earnest dropped out. Twenty
