1 2 Dedication The Senior Class of 1959 is pleased to dedicate its BEAVERIAN to Mrs. McDonald. Those of us who have participated in the Junior and Senior plays and the Lewneida League Speaking contests have greatly appreciated her assistance. Her skill, pa- tience, understanding, and thoughtfulness have won her much respect and many last- ing friendships; therefore, it is indeed a privilege for us to honor her in this way. 3 m Yearbook Staff Seated: Yvonne Potter, Feature Editor; Nancy Gray, Art Editor; Bernard Hitchcock, Photography Editor; Alice Virkler, Editor-in-chief. Mary Louise Lasher Class Prophecy On July 4, 1969, the senior class of 1959 held its first reunion in Stan Tanner's and Tom Yancey's observatory on the moon. Everyone arrived in the rocket Mary Alice - compliments of Bud Hitchcock. After a tour of the observatory, all gathered around an enormous telescope and discussed the present positions of the class members on earth. Elizabeth Monnat and Joyce Sweeney are partners in the Sweenmont Dress Cor- poration in New Jersey; their most popular creation is a water repellent dress. Janice Lehman has an ultra-modern beauty shop adjoining Dr. Dalton's office. She is famous for the new hair style which she created - Red Rye Rag Mop. Joan Schwendy has just written a successful book entitled The Day I Saw Elvis. Leonard Jackson has top billing as comedian in Don Abel's famous night club, Coffee House of the September Moon. After persistent efforts and a few breaks, Judy Hasseler and Karl Lehman have reached stardom in Hollywood. Their latest movie, Always in Time, also stars Ron Yousey, pinch-hitting for Tab Hunter. Leon Doney owns the thousands of Doney Dinettes and motels across the nation and in Alaska; Howard Johnson has been forced into bankruptcy. Sharon Pat6 is hos- tess in the home branch in Croghan. Susan Edwards is dietitian in the White House. Incidentally, the president is currently in Walter Reed hospital suffering from indigestion. He insists on Karen Ford and Janet Lehman as his nurses. All the women are interested in Kay Zehr's latest book, How to Get Along With the Opposite Sex. She says, Just ignore them! Joyce Beck, Norma Virkler and Yvonne Potter are recording hit tunes under the name of Two Mutts and a Jeff. Dan Zehr has devised a new world calendar with 365 holidays and no time allot- ted for school. Ron Bachman, captain of the Naumburg Globe Trotters, is the first man to reach the moon and still keep his feet on the ground. Ray Company has been named Sportsman of the year; his portrait appeared on the cover of the June issue of Conservationist. The biography of Alice Virkler, owner of Macy's new competitor, Virkler's De- partment Store, appears in Who's Who In American Business. Alice says she owes her success to her two top sales clerks, Mae Graves and Merinda VanAmam. Jane Herzig and Mary Lasher have opened a playground for teenagers in Belfort; their biggest attraction is a plastic skating rink. Ron Bush, the new playing manager of the St. Louis Hawks, says he is confident of a victory this season. With the tremendous rebounding ability of Lynn Herzig, Ron says it's a cinch. Sara Jones was named Mother of the Year by the teenagers of America at the Annual Awards Banquet. The same night, Karen Morrison was given the title of Homemaker of the Year. Best seller this month is Bill Dalton's World's Greatest Playboy. Bill says it's an autobiography. Tony Perkins has just hired Keitha Farney as private tutor for his 12 children. Keitha says, It's easier by the dozen. 19 Opry Helen Martin is working very hard as Doc Williams' personal agent on Grand Ole Bernie Bush has invented a special lotion for removing freckles. We hear it is selling very rapidly. A recent surprise was the appointment of Mary Alice Hynes to the new cabinet post. Secretary of Interplanetary Travel. Kilpatrick's Matrimonial Bureau, headed by Nancy Gray, has been doing a booming business; it's rumored that Nancy is responsible for over 5,000 marriages. After exchanging all the news, refreshments were served; everyone ate heart- ily of green cheese, spaceburgers and star cola. Then, with hunger appeased, all reboarded the rocket for a speedy return trip to earth. Class Will We, the class of 1959, being of sound mind and body, do hereby declare this our last Will and Testament. To the Board of Education, we (surprisingly) leave the school in one piece. The football team completed its 1958 season with a 2-3-1 record. Although not as impressive a season as had been expected, Beaver River undoubtedly would have been a contender for the championship had not injuries, suffered by key players including Captain Bud Hitchcock, interfered. Baseball Row 1: D.La Chausse, P.Steria, B.Kuhl, R.Altmire, P.Aubel, W.Dalton, R.Bush, K.Lehman, R.Mattis, L.Herzig. Row 2: G.Schamback, M.Monnat, C.Wakefield, G.Lomber, W.Benson, R.Yousey, W.Kuhl, K.Lehman, D.Moser, A.Zehr, Mr. Bramhall. The 1959 baseball squad will play the first game of its customary seven game schedule in early May. Even though the 1958 season resulted in five victories and only two defeats. Coach Bramhall is looking for- ward to an even better campaign in 1959. With such regulars returning as Ronald Bush, Lynn Herzig, Philip Au- bel, Raymond Altmire, and David Yousey, the boys from Beaver River have a fine opportunity to win their fourth Lewneida League Championship in six years. 38 Junior Varsity Basketball Row 1: L.Peters, W.Tanner, Managers. The outstanding play of our J V basketball team has made our school proud of the boys who represented Beaver River Cen- tral School this season. Up to now, our record shows 4 victories and 4 defeats, but our boys have played good basketball and will be stronger as the season progresses. Led by team captain, Carlton Wakefield, and center Walter Benson, the boys have shown much scoring punch. Outstand- ing on defense have been Wilbur Lyndaker, Leon Gavigan, Rod Carnie, and Butch Ford. 39 Varsity Basketball Row 1: B.Hynes, Manager, S.Tanner, K.Lehman, L.Herzig, B. Kuhl, P.Steria, F.Gavigan, Manager. Row 2; R.Campany, R.Altmire, R.Mattis, W.Dalton, S.Bush, R.Bush, Mr. Giordano. A very pessimistic view has always been taken concerning basketball at Beaver River Central School, and so with the start of the 58-59 season, a group of demoralized hoopsters took the court for the first time. Lacking height and weight under the boards and an ambidextrous teammate or two to do the scoring, Beaver River's outlook was bleak. But with the conclusion of the first practice, even though no one player was outstanding, under the competent leadership of Coach Giordano, the team was being melded into a winning combination. Putting to best use the potential of every member of the wquad, the team has shown steady improvement with every game. Varsity Cheerleaders J. At this meeting Ronald Bush was elected treasurer, and Keitha Forney was elected secretary. President William Dalton and Vice President Richard Mattis had already been elected the previous spring. Acting on suggestions from the students, the Council immediately began work on several proj- ects. A Nurses' Club, an Art Club, a Teachers' Club, and a Drama Club were successfully organ- ized. An assembly committee was set up to arrange a series of monthly assemblies, which have in- cluded programs by the school band and a Christmas play presented by the Drama Club. The Student Council also sponsored a Christmas program which gave the students an opportunity to donate gifts of food to the Lewis County Welfare Department. At present the Student Council is studying the smoking problem and also planning a Career Day.
