FORWARD■ It is with reluctance that we. the class of 1943, close this chapter of high school in cur booh of life. However, we, like the graduates before us, are eager to take our place in the world. As a permanent record of our class's activities we publish this issue of the Beaverian. In later life we can tnumt through its pages and recall happy memories of our school chums, teachers and principal in the red brick school house. iTovr, in bidding- farewell to school days we would like to thank our parents and friends for their encouragement and interest in us. To the Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors we wish good luck and success in reaching the goal we have attained. DEDICATION VX E, the Senior Class of 1943, dedicate this issue of the Beaverian to Mr. Hiram Van Arnam, who served as a member of the faculty from 1881 to 1883, when he taught the advanced grades in this school. Since that time he has been prominent in church, community, and school activities. ' J BEiiVER PALLS HIGH SCHOOL BEAVER PALLS, NE'. HISTORY Nae man ca.n tether time nor tide, As each second ticks by history is made. Thus we the or '43, also have a history which we will record not only in our memory but also in our year book to give tangible evidence of our good times together. On a warm autumn day in September, 1939 a group of twenty eight freshmen started their upwa.rd climb. We elected class officers as follows: Olvera Hiller, President; Harold Manning, Vice President; Grace LaBombard, Secretary; Dorothy Jones, Treasurer; Patricia Kelly, Student Council Representative; Jane Pratt, Class Fieporter; and Miss Virginia Travis as Class .Advisor. The girls were assigned to the laboratory under Miss Eleanor Furnett, while the boys were in the Commercial Room under Miss Virginia Travis. To increase our treasury we had a bake sale. During that year June Dickenson, Jane Pratt, and Jack Steiner joined our circle. Since that was back in the good old days before those pesky little ration bocks came into being we enjoyed a movie and to end the year we had a class picnic at Lake Bonaparte. After a pleasant summer vacation we a.gain went back to school feeling that we had really started the climb. We were again assigned to the laboratory under Mr. Irving Fuhrman. We elected the following officers: Merial Yoder, President; Leslie Genzel, Vice President; Doris Virkler , Secretary; Harold. Manning, Treasurer; Kenneth Shaw, Student Council Representative; Dorothy Jones, Class Reporter; kiss Eleanor Burnett, Class Advisor. This year we lost several members of our class including: Luella Zehr, Barbara Zehr, June Dickenson, Jane Pratt, Grace LaBombard, James Albertson, Edward Chartrand, and Harold Chartrand. We added to our treasury by soiling Salt 1J‘rater Taffy. Many activities were claiming us including band, chorus, school paper, and sports. Harold Manning was Captain of the Junior Varsity Basketball Team. '7e went to the movies, had a sleigh ride, and ended the year with a picnic at L ke Bonaparte with the Juniors a.nd Seniors. This year we were really a: part of the school. To our dismay we were gain assigned to the smelly lab for homeroom under Mr. Fuhrman. We elected the follo 7ing class officers: Doris Virkler, President; Kenneth Shaw, Vice President; Elvera Miller, Secretary; Jack Steiner, Treasurer; Kenneth Shaw and Jack Steiner, Student Council Representatives; Betty Spagnolli, Class Reporter; and Miss Ruth Haley, Class Advisor. ’Thile ''c were regretting the loss of vhroi members of r™?8 ?rjnely G1? ia Largett, Irene -itfrl and Louis u aw?
