two years ago by the Basketeers, a group of parents of basketball players. This award is given to a deserving athlete in the form of a partial scholar- ship to the college of the athlete's choice. The name of the award honors Mr J. Paul Jones, a longtime recreation director of the Beaver Area. Paul Jones has aided countless youth over the years and this award symbolizes the help which he has so generously given. It is an honor in itself to receive an award named after Paul Jones, Beaver's Mr. Sports. D. Morton, Mr. Kane Don Morton was the recipient of the Kay Lewis Award for 1963 and was presented with the award at the annual awards assembly. Don has been a member of both football and base- ball squads. He was a fullback on the unde- feated 1962 team and gained honorable men- tion on the WPIAL All Star team. Third base was Morton's position on the baseball diamond. The award, originally presented each spring by the North Carolina chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, is now handled by the Student Coun- cil. It presents the Kay Lewis Award to the sen- ior boy who best typifies the highest qualities of paw! Jawa Award The Paul Jones Award was instituted J. Cutri, Mr. Paul Jones, D. Mooney 25 leadership and sportsmanship in both varsity and intramural athletics. Each year the committee for the selection of the recipient is composed of the individual var- sity coaches, the high school's principal, Dr. Wil- liam Charlesworth, the faculty manager, Mr. Donald Higbee, Mr. Paul Jones, a representative of the intramural program and two seniors who are not varsity athletes. Don Morton, as the tenth winner of the Kay Lewis Award, certainly typifies all the necessary qualifications for the award and we, the Class of 1964, wish to congratulate him heartily.
