Foreword The purpose ot a high school yearbook is to present, through pictures and words, a cross-section ot the high- lights ot the school year. The T963 SHINGAS has been compiled and edited by the Senior Class with that obiec- tive, as well as a desire to present an interesting and attractive record ot our last year in Beaver High School. The memories ot a high school career are many and var- ied. We will always remember the pep meetings, as- semblies, dances, report cards, football and basketball teams, club meetings, our 1963 SHINGAS, and gradua- tion, as the pertect finishing touch to our high school education. History is replete with men whose leadership, character and personality have left deep impres- sions on mankind. Whether in politics, social work, science, economics or athletics these con- tributions are of lasting value. Their influence is felt in every walk of life from the oldest to the youngest. Many times this inf1uence determines a pattern of life for some boy or girl. We believe that the person to whom we are dedicating this SHINGAS is such a person. As a student in Beaver High School, Geneva College or in Franklin-Marshall College his ma- jor interest was in athletics. To him, athletics is a Way of Life , whether it be in active participa- tion in any given sport, coaching, officiating or with a strong desire to help a boy become a bet- ter athlete. Next to earning a living for himself and his family, this hos been the driving force of his life. Using every available minute, not essen- tial to the conduct of his business, to lead, to en- courage and to counsel boys land yes-many girlsl to become better athletes, to meet competi- tion with greater confidence, his influence has been felt by a myriad of boys and girls in the Beaver Area over the past 35 years, and, we hope, will continue to be felt through many, many more. To describe his many exploits adequately would take more space than is available. Suffice it to enumerate a few highlights of his varied career. He earned letters in four sports while in high school and in two major sports-football and baseball in college. ln his baseball playing days he was an outstanding shortstop for several local and district teams, earning a tryout with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has been an assistant football coach, baseball coach, organizer and manager of many baseball teams from 12 year olds to Junior Legion. CHis 1952 Knee-hi team was state championj. He has supervised Senior and Junior High B.A.C. and the O.S.Y. program and at present is under appointment as the Rec- reational Director for the Beaver Area Schools. In all he has given over 35 years of dedicated effort as coach, director, and instructor to the youth of our communities. As we review the requirements of service, loyalty, leadership and lasting influence not only to the schools lout to the community as well, we can think of no one who is better qualified, no one who has exerted a more profound influence for good, clean living and hard but clean compe- tition in athletics. We, the class of 1963, humble as we stand in awe of this leader of youth, proud to have been his student and friend, take extreme pleas- ure in dedicating and presenting our SHINGAS to: MR. PAUL JONES Mr. Paul Jones Hon. Judge Weiss Common Pleas Court Allegheny Co.
