lt does not happen frequently that one teacher and one class progress through high school together - so to speak. However, such has been our experience as a class with Mr. Cochran, our present sponsor. From ninth grade his teaching assignments have paralleled our class as we moved toward graduation. General Science, Biology, World Cultures, and Physical Science have been taught by him. During each of these years he had members of our class in his home room. This closeness does not stop there. He is and has been associated with many of our classmates as assistant coach in football. He is presently serving as adviser to the Hi-Y club as well as being our class sponsor. Born in Springdale, Pennsylvania, his family moved to the Beaver Area where he attended school. ln the eighth grade he received the American Legion Citizenship Award for outstanding leadership and citizenship. While attending Beaver High School he participated in sports, distinguishing himself in football sufficiently to receive honorable mention on the All-County team. Upon gradua- tion in 1943 he entered the Armed Services and afterwards entered Geneva College from which he received a B.S. degree. While attending Geneva he con- tinued his activity in sports by playing shortstop for one of the county baseball teams. Conway Junior High School provided his first teaching position in the field of education. At the same time he worked for and was awarded a M.Ed. degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Returning to Beaver in 1954 he taught in the Junior High School, also assisting and coaching football. He moved to the Senior High in 1956 to teach General Science and Biology, and was appointed assistant football coach. Mr. Cochran is married to the former Miss Mary Reed of Beaver Falls and they are the proud parents of three year old Suzanne. Both are active in the affairs of Chippewa Township where they live and the Chippewa Community Church which they attend. We feel that Mr. Cochran, our class sponsor, is doing an outstanding iob, not only in the classroom, but in developing high ideals of character and sports- manship as well. His winning smile, pleasing personality and keen sense of humor endears him to all who come to know him. It is therefore with a great deal of pride and deep appreciation of his services to the school, the sports program, our class and to us as individuals that we, the class of 1962, dedicate our Shingas to - MR. THOMAS L. COCHRAN 4
