We don't have much material this year , the boys are too light , our opponents are all big and strong -these, among others are heard from coaches every- where. One remark by our coach, Mr. Peter B. Kane, in the last campaign stays in our mind even yet. Said Mr. Kane, in the first pep meet- ing, l don't know what our team will do this year - - - the only time they show much enthusi- asm is when l yell 'O.- K. go take a shower'. So what happened? - - our team started out by tak- ing the first game 32-0 and went on to win seven out of nine games. Mr. Kane came to Beaver in i944 as assist- ant coach. ln 1945 he was made head coach and has remained so ever since. During his stay in Beaver Area High School his teams have won 47 games, lost 44 and tied 7. The best records were: 1946-7-1-lp 1948-6-3 CCounty Championsjp 1953-7-2, and 1955-7-2. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, he received his early education in the public schools. During his high school days he became interested in athletics, particularly football. He earned letters in all three major sports in high school. Follow- ing graduation he entered Geneva College at Beaver Falls where, once again, he partcipated in varsity athletics, earning three letters in foot- ball, one in basketball ond one in tennis. In the School of Education at Geneva Mr. Kane majored in the Physical and Social Sciences. He has taken additional work at the University of Pittsburgh. ln addition to his educational and athletic activities he found time to take part in other types of student activities, becoming presi- dent of the Student Council during his senior year. He was given a citation in Who's Who in American Colleges. While his duties as head coach in football and assistant in basketball kept him quite busy after school during most of the year, he is much in evidence each day proctoring traffic in the main hall of the south wing, or supervising en- trances and exits from the cafeteria during the lunch periods. When not engaged in these duties he holds forth in room 207 teaching United States History to five sections of the Junior class. ln class his demands are strict, his standards high, but the quality of his work and the success at- tained by his students iustify the means and at- test to his capabilities as a teacher. His pleasing personality has endeared him not only to his pupils and teams, but to the student body and teachers as well. Mr. Kane is married and the father of two young boys. While he says it will be up to them to decide whether to play football or not, we think he secretly hopes that one or both might carry on his liking for, and ability to play the game. In the search for one whose ability to inspire is incomparable, whose personality attracts people unhesitatingly and whose leadership is outstanding-our thoughts constantly turn to one who fits all these qualifications, and so we proudly dedicate our SHINGAS to our teacher, coach and friend-Mr. Peter B. lPeteD Kane. Class of 1956 mr. Peter K Kane fn 14 predation The class of 56 extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. W. W. Paterick and Mrs. Ann Frye. Without their aid our class never would have accomplished its outstanding totals in the sale of magazines, candy and the Shingas. Mrs. Frye, as the very capable sponsor of the class for our last two years, has directed our efforts to two successful class proiects and the best Junior-Senior prom and Senior dance ever. Without her guiding hand and timely advice, we would never have managed to stay afloat on numerous occasions. She pitched in and helped with the prom decorations iust as enthusiastically as anyone else. We feel extremely lucky to have had Mrs. Frye as our sponsor. Mr. Paterick, as adviser of the Shingas, was the guiding influence in creating our book, which we believe to be one of the best ever. When the staff of the Shingas was in doubt about some phase of production, his long years of experience usually came up with sug- gestions to guide them over the rough spots. To you, Mrs. Frye and Mr. Paterick, the class of 'I956 offers its deepest gratitude and extends its best wishes for continued success and the best of luck in the future. 6 l7reAen ting 010' 14 miniA tratvm DR. CHANDLER B. McMll.l.AN Superintenclentp Beaver Area Schools Once again the time arrives to express thanks to Dr. McMillan and the members of the board ot school directors for their help, guidance, and encouragement during our years in school. Were it not for their foresight in charting the way we might never accomplish our tasks nor be prepared for the future. We owe them a debt of gratitude which time alone will permit us to repay. Our thanks are also ex- pressed to Miss Johnson for all her eftorts in helping our class. MISS RUTH JOHNSON Secretary to the Superintendent 8 MR. CHARLES S. LINN, Princip l We were happy to note that the student body under the leadership of its organization, the student council, was thoughtful and appreci- ative of the myriad of things-great or small that Mr. Linn does for us, by presenting him a gift at the Christmas Assembly. Many times we go through a school year thinking only of Mr. Linn as a glorified police officer-ready to bawl us out or slap us in detention hall for some trivial offense. In reality such things are as distatste- ful to him as they are to us but we leave him no choice by our actions. Our sincerest thanks also to Mrs. Mary Grove and Mrs. Janet Williams for all the many favors granted. Mrs. Mary Grove Mrs. Janet Williams 9 Conscientious, hardworking, ever mindful of the many details of operating a large high school, Mr. Linn goes about his daily chores in a quick and efficient manner. Perhaps he does take too many of the burdens on his shoulders but we know that he feels that they are his obligations. May we express our warmest thanks and sincere appreciation to you, Mr. Linn, for every- thing you have done to make our education complete and successful. Class of 1956 ramen ting 040' uidance Courwelvr l BEAULAH V. COOK, B.S., M.Ed. Future Teachers Club Mrs. Beulah V. Cook, Beaver High's busy beaver, handles the job as student counselor like a veteran. Anyone who has attempted to see her will testify to the fact that there is usually a waiting line as in a doctor's oFfice. And as a doctor she listens to complaints, makes a diagnosis, studies it and offers solutions. With her advise on such matters as well as encouragement to- ward scholarship applications and selection of the proper college or job many of us have 'Found our problems to be less diFFicult to solve. We, members of the class of l956, owe you many thanks, Mrs. Cook, 'For the interest in our problems, for the guidance toward their solution, and not least of all the time you have given to us individually. 10 Pre en ting The Kcwine A manager Mr. John McClements, Business Manager, Beaver Area Schools, Virginia Croyle, Clerk. John S. McClements, business manager of the Beaver Area Schools, is now in his second year in this capacity. Charged with managing the finances of the schools, purchasing all supplies, contracting for all work being done and paying all bills presents quite a formidable task. He is ably assisted by Miss Virginia Croyle, who handles all the clerical work of the olfice and Mrs. Eleanor Powell, who manages the cafeterias. We, the Senior Class, express our thanks for a tough iob being done well. 'I'l P e en ting our Teaclue Q . CHESTER 1. GREENE B.S. Commercial Shorthand, Typing. Jwolwff R. GLENN SMITH B.S. II, Ill: .lun- ior Prom Committee Ill. fn ondut memory of 7101-ma Zee Stl-iclzler A physical handicap often may become burdensome and many times results in a defeatism attitude. On the other hand, it may react to spur or challenge a person not only to overcome the disability but also to strive toward a higher goal than may be thought possible. Such a person was Norma Lee Strickler, a member of the class of 1956, who died December 31, 1952, at the age of sixteen. In spite of a physical handicap, Norma Lee was able to realize her main desire, that of attending public school. For her it meant hours of study and preparation for each day's assignments, but her grades were her reward. Norma's friendly smile and courageous spirit will always be remembered and respected by her classmates. Jo i4nn joluw To die is to live in the hearts of those we leave behind. This thought expresses our feelings for .lo Ann Johns, a member of our class who died on July 23, 1951. Having moved to Beaver only a year prior to her death, .lo Ann made many new and lasting friends who will always remember her pleasing personality and cheerful smile. Besides her school and church activities she especially enioyed swimming, dancing, hiking, and reading. Her greatest ambition was to become a nurse, but it can never be fulfilled because of her untimely cleath. We cannot appro- priately express in words the regret we experiencd in the loss of our friend and classmate-Jo Ann. 37 uf 39 univm New Record Hilarious Magnificent Magazine Sales - 56384.17 Books and Crooks Junior-Senior Prom Mrs. Genevieve Hokman-Sponsor Walter McDermott-President Jim Williams-Vice President Marie Hutchinson-Secretary Tom Koss-Treasurer 40 HOME ROOM 107 First Row-J. Pre 1dentA ' Councrl As a co-ordinating factor between the vari- ous clubs and organizations and the administra- tion of our school stands the presidents' council, an organization composed of the leaders of the various groups. The many and diversified prob- lems confronting these clubs, such as attendance at meetings and an activities period, were dis- cussed and partially solved. The council tried not only to solve these problems, but greater ones concerning the whole student body such as cafeteria difficulties and registration. Under the experienced leadership of Mr. Charles Linn the group achieved its aims and improved the school program. Student Cvunczl Beaver High's student council worked over- time this year as it undertook numerous projects. The high spot of the year was a collection, spon- sored by the council, to commemmorate Mr. Linn's twenty-five years of service in the Beaver school system. They sold candy at the horhe bas- ketball games, conducted the annual sale of sweat shirts, and backed the March of Dimes' drive in the school. The officers of the organiza- tion, sponsored by Miss Ruth Fox, were: Bob Sal- tarelli, president, Ellen McKenny, vice-president, and Sally Davis, secretary-treasurer. Twenty seniors stood face to face with a problem. The moment of decision had come. What decision? Why--to become a teacher or not. ' Advised by Mrs. Beulah Cook, Guidance Counselor, on the training necessary, the type of work to be done, the problems to be faced and the rewards to be gained, these Future Teachers held fast to their decision. Opportunity to observe, administer tests to Elementary pupils and perform other duties in the area of their choice, was given each. Speak- ers from colleges added to this by talks, about their college, the education department, and their teacher training program. Officers were: Sue Torrence, president, Jeanne Daugherty, secretary-treasurer. O O I Do I really want to be a nurse? Would I make a capable one? Nineteen girls, with the aid of the school nurses, Miss Ruth Fisher, and Mrs. Irene Benner sought answers to these ques- tions as well as many others thru the medium of the Future Nurses Association. Field trips, pro- iects, visitations by registered nurses, aiding with the patch tests and the Salk vaccine innocula- tions-all helped each member to decide if nursing was the career for her. The girls be- lieved that the monthly meetings presided over by Karen Riggs, the president, carried out the stated purposes of the organization very well. Other officers were: Donna Equels, vice presi- dent, Leola Page, secretary-treasurer. F. T. A. First Row-M. Hall, R. Avery, J. Daugherty, Mrs. Cook, S. Torrence, W. Toth, S. Baney. Second Row-S. Reber, sponsor of the club invited any iunior or senior science student who was willing to take his life in his hands to ioin the club and attend the meet- ings. ln the spring the club made its annual trip to Buhl Planetarium and also the School Science Fair where projects of a few of the students were exhibited. Kv6catA' fclw We cover the High School Front -a slogan adopted by the staff of the Bobcats' Echo, for- merly the Echo, truly describes their eFForts to bring to the student body the complete story in word and picture of the activities in B.A.H.S. Published every six weeks under the direction of the co-editors Wanda Toth and Ruth Retzer and supervised by Mr. Stephen Barnes, it sought to retain the best 'features of former years while adding new and interesting features of its own. News gathering was done outside the class- room but the myriad of other duties necessary for publication claimed most of the classroom time. ln addition to the work required in pub- lishing the Bobcats' Echo the sta'Hi managed, meanwhile, to gather, write, edit, and publish a weekly column in the Beaver Valley Times. Came af C1116 Service and preservation are the two most important words in the vocabulary of Camera Club members. Service-the act of giving of one's time and talents for the benefit of others typifies the work of the club around Beaver High School. Always willing to snap the shutter, de- velop negatives, and print pictures of any of the school activities, they render this service with- out thought of personal gain or glory. This leads to their other characteristic-preservation. By this we mean that thru their eFForts a permanent and preserved memory ot the event is brought into being. lt makes no difference whether it is a football game, the Junior-Senior Prom, on as- sembly or a class play-some member of the club is on hand to preserve it for posterity. This was the theme of the skit which launched the most successful sales campaign in the history of our yearbooks. The Shingas Telethon, put on by twenty members of the senior class, brought us such 'Famous personalities as George Gobel and Liberace. The goal was set at llO0 books, and in November the final order was placed for exactly that number. The majority of work in planning and production still lay ahead, and the editors faced what seemed to be an impos- sible task. However, with the guidance of Mr. Paterick and the work of the entire staff of eighty seniors, contracts were signed, pictures were taken, articles were written, production was com- pleted on schedule, and the dream of the 1956 Shingas became a reality. We feel that the Shingas of 1956 success- fully reflects the personality of the senior class and that it will take its place among the great books of the past, meeting, and we hope, sur- passing the high standards set up by them. This word amply expresses the aim and proiects of the Alpha Tri-Hi-Y, an organization of iunior and senior girls. A speaker, Mr. James Titus, was brought to the school for the Thanksgiving Assembly, as guest of the Alpha Tri-Hi-Y. Spani C7116 latin 6,116 Of all the words used to describe a meeting of the Span- ish Club this year, humdrum or boring would be least likely to tit-mainly because these words are not en Espanol. Variety and excitement were the keywords. Highlighting the monthly meetings was the Christmas party at which senor Santa Claus, Pat Reilly and senora Santa Claus, Judy McCleery, were crowned. While learning how to use the language in informal conversation the members, with the aid ot Miss Lawson, also learned many of the customs of the Spanish-speaking countries such as the Mexican hat dance. Reorganized after a lapse of several years, the Latin Club sought among other things to develop a better understanding of the cultural values of the Latin language. Sixty-three second year Latin students combined under the leadership of Mrs. Leona Lowery, to form it. A visit to the Latin Festival at the Buhl Planetarium, a ban- quet and social activities were combined to increase interest in the club. The purchase of Latin records to help understand Latin better, to show how the language enters our daily speech, was the main proiect of the club this past spring. Gary Morgan-Capt. This project was only one of the many projects sponsored and guided by the G.A.A. Other proiects included volleyball and table-tennis tournament, the sale of stu- dent sweatshirts, and a Fun and Frolic Night. The G. A. A. is a very active club which con- sists of athletic-minded girls in the tenth, elev- enth, and twelfth grades, who wish to partici- pate in competitive games and proiects. The club is under the capable direction of our physical education instructor, Miss Dorothy Wain. The officers for the 1955-56 school term were: Karen Shannon, president, Carol Clark, vice-president, and Jean Mathews, secretary- treasurer. Zeade ' 6,116 Our Leaders Club is composed of fourteen girls, all enthusiastically interested in athletics for girls. Under the sponsorship of Miss Dor- othy L. Wain, girls' physical education instructor, the leaders learn new leadership techniques and aid in the gym classes. The girls assist in taking roll, leading warmup exercises, and checking the dressing room. As a group activity, playdays are held in various schools for the county Leaders' Clubs. The purpose of the playdays is to give Leaders an opportunity to assemble and discuss with each other their activities for the year. Early in the spring, new members are elected by a vote of the present Leaders. The annual induction is held in the form of a pic- nic at Brady's Run Park. Officers were June Stuck, president, Nancy Gardner, vice-president, Judy Mills, secretary, and Betty Griffin, treasurer. LEADERS CLUB First Row-N. Gardner, B. Grittin, Miss D. L. Wain, J. Mills, J. Most of the Bob- cat followers were stunned when the squad they had thought would have a bad year came through with a crushing 32-O victory. The ma- roon and grey scored in each quarter with Fred Bruce leading the attack with three touchdowns. Ray Dawson and Bill Lintz also contributed one touchdown apiece. Beaver's tough front line kept Grove City from any serious scoring at- tempts throughout the game. BEAVER 32 GROVE CITY 0 MOON The Beaver gridders traveled to Moon Twp. for their second game. The first half was marred with fumbles and penalties and at the end of second period, the score was O-0. Late in the third quarter, the Bobcats finally hit paydirt when Fred Bruce crashed over from the two yard stripe. Bill Lintz hit Chuck Weyand with a pass in the end zone to make the score 7-0. Moon dominated play in the fourth quarter, but Beav- er's stalwart front line prevented any score. BEAVER 7 MOON 0 MIDLAND Beaver opened the home season by tangling with the tough Midland Leopards. Midland threatened consistently in the first period, but time after time, Beaver's line stopped them out- side the 20. Late in the second quarter, the Leopards were forced to punt from deep in their own territory. Midland failed to down the ball, and Tom Staub gathered it in and sprinted 70 yards for the score. Bill Lintz again added the extra point. The Beaver goal line was crossed for the first time in the season in the fourth quar- ter but Midland failed in its try for that all- important extra point. BEAVER 7 MIDLAND 6 HOPEWELL Again the Bobcats took to the road to meet Hopewell on the Aliquippa High gridiron. Beaver controlled the ball in the first half but couldn't penetrate the tough Viking line. Hopewell took over after intermission and scored once in each of the last two periods. John Grad's and Anthony Taormina's fine running went to no avail as the Bobcats suffered their first defeat. Beaver's rec- ord now stood at 3 wins and l loss. BEAVER 0 HOPEWELL I3 NEW BRIGHTON Beaver played its fifth game of the season against New Brighton on a rain soaked field. Both teams had trouble getting started until late in the second quarter. Anthony Taormina scored after a long drive down field was put on by Beaver. A pass from Bill Lintz to Chuck Weyand gave the Bobcats their seventh point. A tough defensive game was played throughout the three stanzas. In the fourth period Beaver staged an- other march with Lintz scoring. The Bobcats then traveled home with a well-earned victory. BEAVER 'I3 NEW BRIGHTON 0 FREEDOM The Bobcats took to the field in quest of their fifth victory against the Freedom Bulldogs. The only scoring of the game came in the second quarter when Anthony Taormina displayed a fine bit of ball handling by running a double re- verse with .lim Blose on the scoring end of the play. Bill Lintz failed in his attempt to make the extra point. Beaver was on defense throughout the sec- ond half, as Freedom consistently gained yard- age through the air lines. Freedom failed to score. BEAVER 6 FREEDOM 0 MONACA Beaver capped its sixth victory of the season by defeating the Monaca Indians 'l3-7 on Beav- er's home field. Both teams scored in the second quarter with Bob Shaw scoring for Beaver. Lintz converted the extra point, but Monaca scored minutes later making the score 7-7 at half-time. Neither team managed to stage a scoring drive in the third stanza. Early in the fourth stanza Shaw showed his heels to Monaca and scored a second touchdown for the Bobcats. This time the extra point was missed. Beaver thus notched another victory. BEAVER 13 MONACA 7 CORAOPOLIS Beaver notched their seventh victory of the season by downing a tough Coraopolis Blue Devil team. Beaver scored the lone touchdown with Jim Blose rambling seventy yards on an in- side reverse. The extra point conversion was good and the Bobcats led 7-0. Beaver man- aged to hold the lead without trouble through most of the second half. Late in the fourth per- iod the Blue Devils drove deep into Beaver ter- ritory, only to meet a stone wall. Beaver's vic- tory was well earned. BEAVER 7 CORAOPOLIS O ROCHESTER The Quest of the Old Oaken Bucket took Beaver into the Rochester camp. Beaver was at its defensive best throughout the first three quarters. The first score of the game came in the second quarter with Taormina completing a pass to Bruce. At half time the score stood 7-0 Beaver. Neither team scored during the third stanza but in the fourth quarter Rochy gathered in two T. D.'s within a minute. Beaver then re- taliated on an eighty-four yard run by Jim Blose, but, the game ended with Beaver on the short end of the score and Rochy retaining the Old Oaken Bucket for another year. To be awarded the Kay Lewis Memorial Trophy a boy must excell in all phases of sports- manship as well as being an outstanding ath- lete. To find such a boy, all the athletes in school are screened, checked, and eliminated one by one until only one remains. A search for this athlete last year resulted in selection of Don Daisy Hayes as the winner. Daisy's athletic record showed him to be an out- standing player in football, basketball and base- ball, as well as being a good winner, a disap- pointed but sportsmanlike loser, and a good team player with a strong desire to help his school win. His pleasing personality made him a favorite among his own teammates and his husky, muscular frame made him a worthy op- ponent to the other teams met on the field. Mr. Kane, head football coach, made the presentation at the annual Awards Day Assem- bly. The trophy is presented each year by the University of North Carolina Chapter of the Sig- ma Chi Fraternity in honor of Kay Lewis, an out- standing varsity and intramural athlete both in high school and college. A plaque showing the names of recipients has been presented to our high school for dis- play in the trophy case. Congratulations, Daisy. The plot concerned a bank robber who, it turned out, was a perfect double for the high school principal. After robbing the bank across the street from the school, he and his accomplice found their get-away car out of commission, and were forced to hide in the school. They im- mediately noticed the strong resemblance be- tween the crook and the principal. Tying the principal and hiding him in a closet, the thug set himself up in the principal's office. This started a series of events which not only had the school in a continuous uproar but kept the audience in stitches until the end of the play. Kneeling-B. J. Gardner, J. Brew. Back Row-D. Holt, P. Joan Brew as Corliss and Dave Gifford as Dexter kept the auclience in stitches by their antics with a made-up diary, a root- beer health drink, and an attack of appendicitis. The cast was ably directed and supervised by Mrs. Margaret Pauley and student director, Don Newroth. Congratulations to the class for a most enioyable performance. 1 1 flaw Mall Queen Jean Lengyel, our football queen, reigned over the annual football dance on November 23, while we danced to the strains of the Bill Terry Quintet. Janet Lengyel and Debbie Puppich acted as scepter bearer and crown bearer. The day we tore the goal post down! We will have these moments to remember! As we entered the portals of Beaver Area High School for the first time, we gazed around us in utter amazement, for we knew that this was to be the setting for a new and exciting chapter in our lives. Come along, members of the class of '56, and reminisce your Moments to Remember. We had a good reason to bring down the goal post this year, for our team rallied back after the preceding season of no wins with a suc- cessful seven wins and only two losses. We almost achieved W. P. I. A. L. honors. Our first class-sponsored dance, The Foot- ball Frolic! What a bang up iob we did on it, but how could we miss with such a sponsor and class officers. Reigning as our queen was attrac- tive Judy Hult. Off we went on our annual Bug ology trip to Pittsburgh. Even though we were almost snowed in, we were able to visit Phipps Conser- vatory, Carnegie Museum, and Highland Park Zoo, where we discovered a few animals not yet caged. With the emergence of the 1954 basketball season came three newly chosen cheerleaders- Susie, Joanne, and Ruth Ann-who kept our re- serve boys on their toes. Winter Wonderland and March Fantasy, our first formal dances, were the high spots of the year for those of us lucky enough to catch a date. Beautiful girls in filmy gowns, gorgeous flowers, festive dances, a pert queen, Fran Cuci- nelli, and her court-all made up our 1954 May Day ,entitled This ls My Country. Even though we did goof the May Pole Dance, as usual, it was a memorable event in our school career. What a life we were leading as we floated on a little pink cloud looking down at the wide, wide world through rose-tinted glasses. Whoops! Back to earth with a thud, for final exam time had arrived. Honest, teach, I studied, but it just slipped my mind. Exams were soon out of the way, all ended well, and glorious summer had arrived. Now we were iuniors! We wondered whether there would be school this year because the new north wing was unfinished. Finally on September 13, Mr. Linn welcomed us back and asked us to bear with the inconveniences. What a mess! No public address system, closed stairways, scaffolds to duck under, tools to climb over, everyone lost! We won our first two football games! lt looked as if we would bring home honors this year, but in our third game our luck turned. The season ended with four wins, four losses, and one tie. 'Women M to Kememhzr Around the corner, down the hall! I iust couldn't find myself this fall. Where's the elevator? Oops! wrong door! Now how do you get to the second floor? Beaver High School, rising in fame! The building is different, But the name's the same. Over 56,000 in a magazine sales campaign. lt was thought impossible by the seniors, but we iuniors showed them what busy beavers we could be by far exceeding their record. Clubs were re-organized and we took our part as leaders of the school. With the efficient and news conscious staff of the Echo, we were kept informed on all these school events. My Little Margie, the junior class play, and Meet Corliss Archer, the seniors' produc- tion, brought laughter and enioyment both to the audience and the performers. Not to be for- gotten was Antic Spring, the junior speech class play. Jackets, letters, and miniature footballs were awarded at the annual football banquet on November 9. The boys chose Nancy Turner as the queen of their dance. After Christmas vacation, funny little red spots began to appear on a few people. Measles! What an epidemic! Much to our dismay though, school was not closed. Not enough students had them at the same time, and the teachers refused to come down with them. ln February a dreaded occurrence came about. The cafeteria opened! What complaints and discussion were heard then, but as soon as the bell rang for lunch period, a mad rush was made for the line. With Mr. Kane proctoring the cafeteria, we were soon calmed down into a peaceable group, and the first meal was served efficiently. Although the basketball team got off to a poor start, it wound up in second place in Section 8-W. P. l.A. L. Junior varsity played good hard ball, also, but with the encouragement of the student body under the leadership of the three newly elected sophomore cheerleaders, how could they lose? The Cotton Cotillion , our Junior-Senior Prom, met and surpassed all expectations. Under a woven ceiling of pink and white we felt like southern belles and plantation gentlemen. On the other extreme was the seniors' world of Make Believe when we recalled the days when we were children. With the crowning of Margie Speer, our queen of the May, and commencement, the '54- '55 school year ended, but our memories of the year will always remain with us. The quiet talks, the noisy fun, The ballroom prize we almost won! We will have these moments to remember. What a thrill it was when we first heard those words, Seniors are dismissed. We knew that this was to be our big year and that we were to be the leaders. A football season to be remembered! Our boys gave the class of '56 a record to be proud of. Even though they dicln't bring home the Old Oaken Bucket, they seized seven games and dropped only two. The crowning of Jean Len- gyel, as our football queen, highlighted and ended a glorious season. The Shingas Clicks in '56 . This slogan spurred the staff to sell more books and make this yearbook the best ever. We reached our goal-l 100 books! Christmas was just around the corner when we seniors found ourselves in the midst of our senior proiect. Selling the candy was a cinch, but delivering it was the part that hurt. lt proved to be a great deal of fun and we would do it over again gladly. Our hot shot basketball players proved that the Christmas vacation hadn't gotten them out of shape. Our school scoring record was broken by big John Mills, with 35 points. Herbert Philbrick, noted for his work as a secret agent for the F. B. l., visited our school and told us about the workings of the communists in this country. Books and Crooks and The Perfect ldiot proved what talent the juniors and seniors have for drama. Both brought the roof down! Our final dances and how beautiful they were! At the seniors' Hawaiian Holiday leis were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Frye for their help in making our dance a success. The Junior- Senior Prom and the Post-Prom Party climaxed the dances in our school career. Soon will come that long awaited march down the aisle for our diplomas, but we will never forget the good times we've had in B. A. H. S. When other nights ancl other days l-lave found us gone our separate ways We will have these Moments to Remember. + I I ?
