14nd Proudly bedicate 010' Slainga To A friend in need is a friend indeed! So goes the old saying. We have found that Mr. R. Glen-don Smith, our effervescent, happy-go- lucky commercial teacher is-a friend indeed. Always willing to help, offer counsel, or buoy up one's spirits when they are dragging-he is known and loved by everybody in and around the high school. Smitty, a name by which he is well known, was born in Grove City. Upon graduation from Grove City High School, he enrolled in Valley Forge Military Academy and was a member of its first gradu- ating class. Returning home, he entered Grove City College where he received the degree, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. The next stop in his busy, happy life was in Springdale, Pennsyl- vania. There he taught commercial subjects in the high school for two years. Moving to Beaver in 1936, he took over much of the work of the Commercial Department and in his stay here has taught every subject which it offers. To show his versatility, Mr. Smith substituted in the Physical Edu- cation Department for two years during World War ll. At that time he organized, trained, and commanded a Victory Corps, which won much acclaim in the community. ln addition to teaching a full schedule of classes each year of the 18 he has been in Beaver, he has, at various times, served as sponsor of the Bobcat Club, the senior, junior, freshman classes, and as drill master for the majorettes and cheerleaders. With all such activities, it is surprising to see the pep he displays in his walk, in his actions, in his classes, in fact, in everything. So we, the class of 1955, recognizing his abilities, his understand- ing nature, and his love for young people, are happy and proud to dedicate our Shingas to our good friend, sminy. 9

,911 Hppreciation One of the biggest little jobs to be done in Beaver Senior High School is that of produc- . . I ing the Shingas. Ea-ch succeeding Senior C ass faces the task of making contracts, selecting covers, arranging pictures, and planning the layout, as well as a myriad of other problems. Without someone with experience and know- how to guide them, many of these would go undone or worse still, the book might never get to press. With 'I6 years of advising ex- perience behind him, Mr. William W. Paterick provided the necessary instruction to our staff so that we could present the largest and, we think, the finest Shingas ever published. For all his advice, supervision, and help, we sin- cerely express our thanks. Along with the work of the Shingas Ad- ' comes the herculean task of managing viser, the finances, directing the projects, and plan- ' . Taking ning the Senior banquet and dance these new duties as Senior Class Sponsor, UP Mrs. .lo Etta McLaughlin has done an excellent ' ' ' activities. iob of aiding us In our many Through the class officers and committees, her steady hand helped the class in a very profit able wreath and candle sale, a wonderful dance and the financially successful promo- tion of the class play. Mere words are inadequate to express th nks to Mrs McLaughlin, but we want our a . her to know that we really do appreciate her help and guidance during our last year in high school. 'IO
