Mowery Jack Leasure Adviser Mr. William W. Paterick 3 To 010' friend MRS. MARGERY L. I A friend is he who sets his heart upon us, is happy with us and delights in usg . . . is willing and fully engaged to do all he can for us, and on whom we can rely in all cases.',-William Ellery Channing Push in your chairs! I want this talking stoppedlv .... Few students who have ever entered the library of B.H.S. will ever forget these sayings or the woman who said them. Mrs. Margery johnson, in her own inimitable fashion, created them and in her position as librarian used them frequently. Her duties are many and varied. Not only does she efficiently keep the functions of the library operating smoothly, but also she adds an individual atmos- phere to th room which makes it seem to say, g'Welcome students, may I be of assistance to you?,' Mrs. johnson herself has won the affections of the entire stu- dent body. The class of ,52 especially recognizes the many favors and kind deeds which she has performed in its behalf. At any time a student may approach her asking assistance in finding refer- ence material, or perhaps just for her wise counsel, She is never too busy to help solve the tiny problems which seem so big to a sophomore, or the intricate ones which are so complex to a senior. In her capacity as journalism instructor and Echo sponsor she keeps the interest of the students always in mind, ever trying to add a little more spark to the daily school routines. In addition to her other duties she also has assumed the responsibility of instructing a course in junior speech as well as sponsoring the Tri-Hi-Y. Never- theless, she still finds time to keep a happy home for her husband and her pet dog, '1Mitzi.v A friendly smile, an enjoyable personality, and a helpful man- ner have enabled Mrs. johnson to become a friend to all in the high school. Interwoven into the memories of the graduating class will be recollections of happy moments spent in her presence. Because of the sincere manner in which Mrs. johnson per- formed her many tasks and for the innumerable times she has as- sisted every one of us, we the senior class are happy to dedicate the 1952 SHINGAS to Mrs. Margery johnson, who to us will always remain the lovable Mrs. jf 5 C I fn Mepreclatlvn To merely say thanks seems inappropriate for someone who has done so much for our class in the way of finances, education, and guidance during our senior year. As sponsor of the class, you, Mr. Charlesvvorth did a remarkable job, even though We often strained your patience. Your charming personality, which greeted us as sophomores and led us as seniors, will long remain in the memories of the class of 352. Mr. William L. Charlesworth Mr, William W. Paterick Patience, understanding, and more patience are required to sponsor a yearbook. As adviser to our Shingas, Mr. Paterick has exemplified these qualities in in- numerable times. His constant cooperation Was a guidelight to the staff as they planned the Shingas and to the entire class as they planned their lives. We, the graduating seniors, sincerely say, Thank you, Mr. Paterickf, 6 fi 0 Crew R. Our industrious crew finally broke into the limelight by sponsoring the Football Dance entitled Football Heavenf' It was a huge success Ceven if the crepe paper did sag a littlej. Didnlt Larue High make a lovely queen? Next came our Bobcat dances to the lilting strains of Vic Trola and his record playing orchestra. Brother sophs take a bow . . . At least we attended them even if the male members of the crew didn,t display their dancing talents but rather sat down on the unior ln the front door please, after all we are privileged now!! Fight team iight. They came, we fought, and they conquered. Need we say more? . . . Can anyone forget the fears of chemistry and the first experiment? . . . Clear thinking looms ahead . . . but that was before valence .. . Mrs. Cook gave us dress rehearsals before we began our super sales- man routine which gave us a total that swamped last year's. Who was in my terri- tory? On we rolled to c'Our Miss Brooksv, our first attempt in drama. The old saying, side decks and well . . , canat you remember? Basketball season wasnat much to brag about, but it was fun. QThe reserves were pretty hot but wait ,till next year . . . nuff said, . . . Spring is finally here, kiddies. No more snow and slush . . . We, the Sans Club, went to the Zoo to see the monkeys, Qhowever we did ig- nore the local talent displayed by our own monsters, sea speciesj. In spring a young man,s fancy turns to anything but girls , . . but girls think of proms such as the Under- water F antasyv sponsored by the Iunior class. Spring also brings May Day with us lovely girls as the four seasons . . . Now on to bigger things, after all next year we are upper classmen. 641' athe show must go onv was a perfect title for rehearsals, especially when the snow came and stayed. Senior This is Our Yearllv Remember the day Mr. Paterick said that in pep meeting to inspire us to win a game? That was only a start which spurred the student body to great heights as far as spirit and cooperation were concerned. From the time we first got that queer feeling when Mr. Linn said Seniors are dismissedf, until the last diploma was handed out, we were determined to be good leaders. 'cOur year was highlighted by a football team that won more games than any other team since we had been in high school. To add to their glory, we became the proud possessors of the Old Oaken Bucket? in spite of a ton of gooey mud and icy snow. But the student body captured honors too. We had the best spirit seen within these ancient walls for a long time. Who could forget the Midland pep meeting and the O.H.G., or the Rochy pep rally and the victory assembly. Doesn't Phil blush nice? Culminating the season was the beautiful Football Heaven? dance. Vonnie Heath, our football queen, and Len Weaver, honorary football captain, reigned like true monarchs . . . Do you happen to remember Halloween and the charming cheerleaders that led the band in the parade? . . . Sue Brown and her acquaintance with the police depart- ment . . . Came Shingas time and we had the Strolling couples munching on French pas- teries provided more atmosphere. Then the wee hours celebrations . . . At last came basketball season and our boys didnlt disappoint us. Dramatic time came with You Canit Take It With Youf, Miss Bart- lett said there were many character parts and we thought our characters did a pretty swell job, didnit you? The high point in our social calendar was the prom. It was wonderful. The juniors really did themselves proud . . . As spring came we saw May Day, the senior dance, baccalaureate and everything else that means graduation fast approaching. The last day of school found us feeling downhearted in spite of those famous words, 461,11 be so glad when I get out of school, I,ll . , . yes?
