OUDLY DEDICAT Ding Ding ' l No this is not a street car bell lts a little object on the desk of Room 103 of Beaxer High School lf your course of study has included advanced math ematics you haxe no doubt heard its familar jingle Another thing typical to this room is the daily proverb found on the side black board Mingled with this bit of good sound philosophy on such a sublect as Hoxx to study We learn the meanlng of those un knoxxn x s and other confusing problems in the field of mathematics It is in such an at mosphere that xxe have been gixen a sound basis for our education And behind this at mosphere stands the man to xx hom xxe the clation Under his xxatchful guidance stud ents passing thru B H S have learned many of the intricacies theories and functions of the various courses in mathematics Many are those who entered his room with foreboding as to their abihtv in the field onlv to find hidden abilities interests and a nexx sense of value from his supervision counsel and techniques Born in a small rural community near Nescopeck Pennsylvania he received his early education there After graduation from high school he continued his education at A1 bright College in Reading xx here he receixed his Bachelor of Arts degree He started his teaching career at Iohn sonburg vxhere he spent six years before com ing to Beaver in the fall of 1930 For three years he taught Ninth Grade math in the unior High School When the Freshman Class x as moved to the Senior High School Building he moved up also and soon xx as giv en the assignment of math in the upper grades in assignment xx hich he still holds In the meantime he had continued his oxxn educational advancement by attending State College and the University of Pitts burqh from xxhich in 1942 he received his Nlaster in Education degree During his eighteen years on the Beaver un1or Senior High School Faculty he has had many assignments as sponsor of extra these xx as adviser of the high school paper then knoxxn as the Enlightener He has at various times been sponsor of the Senior umor and Sophomore Classes Our present Senior Class as sophomores xxas his last sponsorship In 1941 he xx as selected as noon hour supervisor ln presenting our Reflections of B H S to the students and friends in Beaver we the Class of 1948 feel privileged and honored to dedicate our Shlngas to our good friend Mr Herman V Moxx erv His never failing sense of humor his patience and encouragement both in classes and activities his perserver ence in giving us a firm foundation in mathe matics have all left their mark on us and we ale certain that long after our high school davs are but a dim memory xxe xxill frequent lv reflect ox er the time xx e spent in his classes ' '- ' . 1 . , 4 .3 - : K ' . Through fhe Looking Gloss As we look back across the years durmg vthrch Beaver Hrgh School has publlshed a yearbook vxe fmd many lnterestlnq facts about them ln the earllest days they xx re merelv called The Annual The p cturlng of a fevx l1'ldlVlClLlalS groups of classes and some ath book the remamder bemg devoted almost en trrely to lrterary efforts of class members and a elass1f1ed l1st of all former graduates of Beaver H1gh School As the years progressed we found that more and more space was devoted to prctures of and about school lrfe The Senror Class was g1ven the posrtron of honor and the oth er classes glven a proportlonate drsplay Gradually tt unfolded as a real attempt to portray a cross sectron of l1'e IH the hxgh school In 1923 two rnnovatrons xx ere attempted A new vest pocket edrtron was planned Small and compact It measured only 6 by 7V The Senxors were plctured mdrvldually formally and rnformally Other cuts and copy had to of necessxty be cut m srze and amount Thls small PdflOI1 lasted only 1 short whlle before succeedmq classes returned to the conventronal slze More lmportant hom ever vxas the adoption of the t1tle vxhrch the book stlll bears SHINGAS What could have been more apropos than to go back 1nto the hrstory of Beaver xtself and fmd that the tovxn der1ved rts name from the l1ttle Indran vrllage located on thrs plateau almost 200 years ago and called Shmgas town by the French and lnd1ans We are mdebted to the Class of 1923 for grvmg us the t1tle whlch we strll proudly use on our yearbook We are pleased to call your attentron to the fact the SHINGAS rs now celebratmg rts 25th brrthday Space does not permlt us to show plctures of the Shmgas of exery year s1nce then but on the next page we present a composlte pre ture of the Shrngas of vesteryears 1n fxve year mtervals I , ' I lfg. 1 ' A U l ' , V . . . . . . 4- '.
