No matter what the weather or what the score, Beaver Falls fans fill the stands to support their team. As one loyal fan roared, What's a night without a Tiger game?? The pride in our team is evident throughout the streets of town as well as the halls of B.F.H.S. This pride exhibits spirit in our school and our community. Remember pushing popcorn or working the concession stand for Junior Sales? What about ushering or playing in the band? What about cheering your heart out or toughing it through a rough ballgame? All of these memories of our activities during high school give us the pride to strive to be the best. And we will continue being the best as long as our Tiger Spirit shines. STRIPE IT RICH Whenever you see a group of good-looking people, you are attracted to them. Their appear ancc interests you, and you want to be a part of that group. It boosts your self-confidence when you are associated with those that have an attitude that says we re it! Dressing up at B.F.H.S. lifts your spirits because you feel good about yourself. Compliments Irom fellow classmates add to this good feeling. Of course, when the models of the BF Usher's Club dress up, their annual Fall Winter ■ Fashion Show is a tremendous hit! The theme of this year's show is Sweet November. And Sweet is certainly how these girls look in their gowns. The fashion show is held in the evening so that the public can attend. As always the public takes pride in Beaver Falls High School because of the model's performances. When the public feels that we are the greatest, it's easy for us to be proud about ourselves! When we look great, we feel great. And BF High School is proud to be looking good! BF Tigers are certainly originals and our style stands out. The annual fashion show influences many guys and girls on what mode of fashion to wear to the Annual Usher's Club Formal, Almost Paradise . However, formal wear is not the only concern on girls' minds these days. As seen in the pictures, floral prints, oversized sweaters, stirrup pants, tight skirts and ravishing colors are the hits of the season. For the guys, not much has changed. They mostly wear tuxedos or suits to the formal and everyday wear consists of T-shirts, flannel shirts and five pocket Levi favorites. ..ether it's dressing up or dressing down, Beaver Falls is looking good! Holly Brooks, Theresa Coffini, and Kevin Chirichetti work behind the scenes selling tickets at the Ushers Fall Winter Fashion Show. Dianne Cynkar, Audrey Harris, Lisa Liberty, Autumn Clark. In Beaver rails High School, many clubs and organizations are always busy preparing special activities for their members. There's a ski trip in January, a formal in February, a banquet in March, a field trip in April, and so on. Every year, the school calendar is booked with similar activities. However, is it possible for an organization to be constantly on-the-go, to have an outstanding reputation, to be well-known throughout the H?gh area, and to get along with other peo-[ple and carry on conversations without | even speaking a sinal woM £es it is possible. The Beaver Falls : Troupe does all of that and more. They entertain people and communicate with them through their actions without talking. Since they are a unique organization, the B.F. The Mellowmen from Indiana University of Pennsylvania are jamming during an assembly for the high school student body. harken back to the days of yesteryear and recall those extracurricular activities ranging from exceptionally educational to extraordinarily exciting that really let our stripes show through. Boisterous bands, complicated classes, annoying art and crazy clubs all resulted in enjoyable entertainment and educational exercises. Learning all those identites in Trig or memorizing lines from Hamlet in C.P., or just learning the rules of school as a freshman may not have been all fun and games; but all work and no play would be a boring day. BFHS is not boring!!! The Trig students had a party and became an identity, To be or not to be became a common cry throughout the halls, and the freshmen found they wem't only laughed at, but some people were laughing with them. If you think about it, it really is possible to get a good education and have a good time too! STPIPEDELIC Personality, Spirit and Involvement are among the many qualities that have made our school the best in Beaver Counb We have tried to capture all three of these qualities in what we think are the most memorable moments of this year. Some school activities are taken very seriously while others are celebrated light-heartedly. Some are intense and demanding yet others provide enthusiasm and laughter. But one quality that is the driving force for the expectations, hopes and dreams of Beaver Falls High School is spirit. Spirit sparks the flame that generates both personality and involvement in our lives. If you talk to any Tiger Fan who has attended these events, they will tell you that spirit is a vital part in keeping BF pride alive,” says Beth Braykovich, a senior. While the student body lends heir support, spirits are psyched as the Lady Hoopers and BF Tigers dominate the basketball courts. However, athletics is not the only factor that contributes to our tiger pride. As we crowned Queen Holly Winkle Homecoming Hight, Tiger Spirits rose with her as she reigned over the festivities. Likewise, our Morp (or backwards prom) encouraged excitement as Phil Sabino was crowned King. With the seriousness and tradition of Homecoming, the Morp provides the same spirit but with craziness and ourtarageousness. Holly, Queen of the Roses, and Phil, King of the Trash, represent to others our dynamic spirit; a spirit which will forever show, the binding friendship we all Know. The Senior members of the Morp Court and their escorts are presented to the BF Student Body during the pep assembly held in their honor. Cheerleaders. Finally, the moment arrived . . . Kathy Brozich reigned as Queen over her court consisting of Joy Pelaia as crown bearer, Amy Rae as scepter bearer, Cindy Fairley as train bearer, Holly Winkle and Samantha Pickrell as ladies-in-waiting, and Leah Hegner and Stephany Pisano as flower girls. Leah Megner and Joy Pelaia discuss past activities and future plans as they prepare for Graduation. 51 Qr-r-raduation Simply stated, the Senior Class of 1987 graduated June 11th in the Middle School Gymnasium. Maybe that is simple enough to say if you are an underclassman, past graduate, teacher, school board member or onlooker, however, for the Class of '87, “simple'' hardly describes our four years of education and experiences at BFHS. During the graduation ceremonies, some graduates thought of the friendships they have built up or have tom down, the tests they have prepared for or have crammed for or the teachers they have liked or have disliked. Yet, others set themselves goals and decided to meet the challenges future life has to offer. All of the ideas, thoughts, memories, and shared moments the Class of '87 have experienced are. needless to say, not simiple! They are as complex as the human cell, as vast as the universe and as different as night and day! However, the last event the Class of '87 shared was the most important-commencement. On June 11th, we shared our end and looked forward to our beginning. As the ushers escorted the graduates to their seats and the band played “Pomp and Circumstance”, an eager audience viewed an array of orange and black. The program proceeded with Rev. William Maher giving the Invocation. Mr. Frank Jute giving the Welcome, Aye-sha Fritz and Lisa Buffaloe singing “Somewhere Out There,'' and Mrs. Haney Hutchinson giving the Faculty Greeting. Hext, Mr. John Wilson presented the awards to the Honor Gradu- ates, and Mr. Chris Sebastian presented the awards to the High Honor Graduates. Our fellow graduate, Leigh Ann Pletz, delivered the Salutatory Address. Mr. Jackson Allison presented the awards to the fifteen Highest Honor Graduates, and Ann Frances Piccinini delivered the Valedictory Address. Finally, the Senior Class President, Darrin Berger, led the Tassel Ceremony followed by the Fanfare and Recessional under the direction of Mr. David Hunter. As we filed out the doors and turned our backs to the audience, we said goodbye to our lives as “Stripetacular students at BFHS and looked ahead to our complex futures consisting of new faces, new friends and new goals that we will meet, accept, and strive for as adults. With the return of nine lettermen, this years team held great promise. The Tigers got 'one for the thumb” by capturing the County and Section Championships for the fifth time. This proud group of cats also added a second Tri-State coaches championship and a Butler Invitational Trophy to its impressive list of gold medal performances. Then, in a strange twist of events, the Tigers chose to be eliminated from W.P.I.A.L. Team Competition in order to concentrate on the P.I.A.A. Championships. It turned out to be the right move as the Tigers grabbed 16 medals at the State Qualifiers. Twelve of those individuals advanced to the State Finals. At the P.I.A.A. Championships, eight individuals captured eleven medals as the Tigers finished third with thirty points in a field of 150 teams. The State Championships were the highlight of the Tiger season. The two day event saw eight Tigers set eleven personal records; the most memorable being Rob Summers' gold medal performance in the high jump. Rob's jump of 6'9 1 2” was a state, county, and school record. It was a season in which the Tigers lived up to their potential and did whatever they had to do in order to get the job done. The players' attention must be fully devoted to the game at all times. The traits that were just described above are the usual characteristics found in the Beaver Falls Baseball Team. I felt we could have been better, exclaimed Mr. Keeley, but we didn't have any starters back from last year. This is a problem that only experience can overcome. The team ended up with a 7-7 record in the section and had an overall record of 10 wins and 8 losses. It's not something to be very happy about, remarked the coach, but next year we ll have 13 of this years 17 member team back. I'll know more of what to expect from our players. With 17 seconds left, Jeff Car-acter steals the ball and sinks a layup. We win, 72-73! This is just one of the many scenes that thrill the Tiger fans. Marcus Jones, the sparkplug of the Tigers, has been described as a fighting dog , an unreal leaper , and a rare breed . Good work Marcus! Mike Wagner, BF's 610 center, will be playing his college ball for Loyola of Baltimore. In his best game to date, Mike scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. This was done while playing for the City-West Penn All Stars in the Dapper Dan Classic. This allowed the people of Western PA to see what a fine player Mike has become. Good luck Wags! After 30 years of coaching basketball, Coach Frank Chan is hanging up his whistle and clipboard for the last time. Chan's record while at B.F. stands at a very respectable 368 wins and 112 losses, his overall record of wins falls just nine short of the magical 400 mark. With a record of 9-1, the Tigers finished near the top of the division. The entire season started great with a win over our rival team Blackhawk, but most Tiger fans agree, the high points of the season were defeating Ellwood City and coming back to win our final game over Beaver. However, not all of the season was pleasant. A loss to Hew Brighton knocked our pride around a little. But, the hardest blow was forfeiting two games because of an attendance error. These losses ultimately cost the Tigers a playoff position. Garry Hewton, senior, thinks sentimentally, We just had fun at practice and all the joking afterwards. Our team was really close-knit. Larry Cramer recalls the fight with Beaver after the victory, while manager Todd Allen still laughs over some of the crazy nicknames. The team was comical, he states. While Tyrone Hesmith smiles proudly when he says We were great. Just Fantastic! ', Jerry Cook summed up the entire season in one word .. . awesome! You really were just that Tigers!! Coach Ryan explained as he went on to say. They occurred early in the season giving enough time for proper healing. Also, when the veterans were out, the younger Kids off the bench got good expe- rience. This made our team stronger! With only one veteran, Sonya Walker, the Lady Hoopers struggled through a tough pre-season to come out ahead in seasonal play with a 16-5 record. Coach Ryan explained, T never worried about the wins or losses during the pre-season. Since the season was clearly too easy, the difficult pre-season got the team play-off sharp! The evidence is definitely clear-the Lady Hoopers went on to capture another WPIAL Title and returned, once again, to Hershey! They did make a run at them before the half, still the point spread by the end of the third quarter was too great to overcome. Experience Is Learning The girls track team, 7 and 2 for the season, barely missed qualifying for the team championships. Losing a grueling meet to Blackhawk was the culminating factor. This young team gained invaluable experience that will help them to better themselves in the future. Coach Ryan commented, When you lose eight experienced veterans from your squad, you call on the younger members to take up the slack. I like the younger girls to observe their event before they are put into a pressure situation where they are competing for points. They have to push to develop faster than I like, but with the talent these younger members posessed and the experience of the returning members, the team did an exceptional job. One of the highlights, in a rather disappointing season, came when Maryann Stover broke the school record in the 300 meter hurdles. Her time was good enough to qualify her for the state championships. Maryann is now ranked number seven in the state of Pennsylvania in the hundred meter hurdles. Another bright spot was Jackie Lavette's re- cord breaking triple jump. Although she broke a school record in this event, she missed qualifying for the State Championships by less than an inch. I'm sorry Jackie didn't make it to the State Championships, coach Ryan stated, but I'm very happy for Jackie because she greatly surpassed the personal goal which she set for herself. Coach Ryan emphasized, With the added maturity and experience and the training during the off-season, next year's Beaver Palls Girl's Track Team will be outstanding! All eyes are on Maryann Stover at the finish line as she comes in first with a record of 46.4 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles— A HEW SCHOOL RECORD! Congratulations Maryann! With this in mind, we felt that a winning season was a realistic goal, says Coach Harrier. Consequently, the team finished co-champs of section II with a 10-2 league record. Sue and Tracy were run-ner-ups in the section doubles tournement, qualifying to compete in the W.P.I.A.L. Doubles Tournament in north Park. Sue also bat- tled to the finals of the M.A.C. singles tournament before being defeated by Moon's Kelly Deep. An excellent job was done by first year letter winners, Amy Phillips, Rebecca Metheny, Jennifer Mentz, and Stephanie Young at doubles, and Lisa Pelaia at third singles.
