I thought you said this wouldn't hurt! SCHOOL B c t n D otJ cirw IDEAL SENIOR BOY Mark Veon Dear B.F.H.S. Tigers: The first and most important thing I want to say is THANK YOU —thanks to everybody —to Mr. Dunfee, to Mr. Pietro, to Mrs Riley, to my teachers, and to all my fellow students, because this experience has been so successful (more than I could ever imagine) and possible only with your help. The teachers were so patient in the beginning when I only understood a little and afterwards when I had to miss their classes so many times for AFS meetings. Also all the students were so friendly, understanding, and always willing to help me. They really give Beaver Falls its Tiger spirit which is unique. Most of all, I have enjoyed so much the football games, pep rallies, cheers, club meetings, and field trips and all other activities that were new to me. I came to Beaver Falls, and because everything is different here, I had a big adjustment to make when I started school. Now I consider Beaver Falls my second home, and my stay here has permitted me to understand better the American way, which is really different from what I thought. It is hard to believe that in a couple of months, I will be back in Argentina. This year went too fast, and so many exciting and new things happened that it seems a beautiful dream with the worst ending— having to say GOOD-BYE. GOOD-BYE to all the nice people I have met this year whom I'll never forget. Adios! Love, Maria P.S. If any of you ever go to Argentina, remember that there you have a friend willing to see you. LAI I 54 IN MEMORY OF CHARLES BECK BARBARA MILLER LOREEN PRIMERANO Life is a road that winds among the hills of time. There is a unity beyond the unities of time and With every turn in the road an old view vanishes, a place and even thought, a unity that links us as one, new view appears. Life is a pilgrimage, a passage just as all the waves are one sea and all the islands through eternity, a journey into the unknown, one earth. Does not love link us with our friends People are as travelers on a journey. though they be on the other side of the earth? So Some pass quickly beyond the bend in the road those we love may pass beyond the reach of hands, that hides them from our view. Some walk beside but not outside the heart, us all the way. Some seem to creep along, and some pass swiftly as a runner. But life cannot be meas- James Dillet Freeman ured in terms of time, only in terms of living. LIFE IS A ROAD When people die they do not cease to be; they only pass beyond human sight. 55 classes classes classes classes classes classes classes classes classes classes classes classes classes classes classes DOl'Gl HOTD POP CANDY POTATC rfiilMilUiUU li LISA ADRIAN HARLIN AESCHBACHER PATRICIA ALEV GAIL BAKER BARBARA BARKEY RICKI BARKFELT LORETTA BARRETT BARBARA BECK FRIEDA BEERCOOK APRIL BEIGHTLEY JOSEPH BELCZYK ROBERT BIDDLE TED BISCHOFF GINA BISH BRUCE BLYTHE KAREN BOAK THOMAS BOBIN SHIRLEY BOGGAN RONALD BOOK RITA BOTTI MARIE BOVALINO ROBIN BOWSER BETH BOYLE BETTY BROOKS TIM BRYANT RALPH BURROUGHS MIKE BUTLER BRIAN CAMPBELL 60 SHAREN CAMPBELL ERIC CAPOTS TAWNIA CARACTER WILLIAM CARACTER JAY CAROTHERS CHRISTOPHER CARY GENE CHIAPPETTA JOE CHIAPPETTA BARBARA CHILDS THOMASINE CLEARY CAROLYN CLECKLEY CRYSTAL CLECKLEY KANDIE COGLEY KIMBERLY COLEMAN SCOTT COLLAR DAVID CORBIN LUANN COWDERY TYANNE COX BRUCE CREES LISA DABNEY WILLIAM DAUGHERTY TRACI DAWSON RICHARD DEAL RANDALL DEHAVEN GLENN DENNISON DONNA DEROSE SHELBY DILLE LYNN DOCCHIO 61 EDWARD DWYER DENISE DZURA COLLEEN ECKMAN NANCY EILER MARK ELLINWOOD DEBBIE FENCHEL KENNETH FORMAN BRIAN FORREST KANDY FOSNAUGHT SANDRA FRASIER BARBARA FREED JEFF FREED JANICE FREIER LINDA GEISER DELDA GIBSON LINDA GIBSON MICHELLE GIBSON JEFF GILMORE TONYA GLENN TYRONE GOLDING SHIRLEY GOSSARD JULIE GRANATI ANITA GRANT DAVID GREEN TAD GREIG PAUL GRIMES AMY GRIMM KIMBERLY GUTHRIE 62 DANIEL GUTOWSKI LUANN GUZZETTI RHONDA HADDOX BARBARA HALLIGAN CHERYL HARRINGTON CARL HARRIS KATHY HARRIS DERRICK HASKINS GEORGE HENDERSON GREG HIGGINS DAVID JOHNSON PAULA HINZMAN ELAINE HORNACEK BONITA HUMPHREY SUSAN JANSTO NANCY JASINSKI TRACY JEFFERIES RICKY JINAR CHARLES JOBE DAVID JOHNSON DOUGLAS JOHNSON DONNA JONES DUANE JONES ED JONES NATALIE JOPCHAK BRUCE KALINOSKI PATRICK KELLY IVAN KHAN DOUGLAS KING 63 SIDNEY KIRKLAND DANIEL KITTNER TIM KOAH PAULA KOFALT SANDRA KREBS JIM KREITZBURG JEFF KRUPA PATRICIA KUZIBICKI DONALD LACEY BETH LADERER DIANE LANDSBACH MIKE LANGSTON KENNETH LAW GREG LEAVENS RICHARD LIBERTO JOHN LINZEY DEBORAH LITTLE ALENE LYONS MICHELLE MAHOVLIC GIGI MALLEY RICHARD MALLICK CAROL MANGELLI KRISTINE MANGERIE THELMA MANNERINO MICHAEL MARSH GLENN MARSHALL JEFF MARSHALL THERESA MARTELLA 64 JIMMY MASON JAMES MATHEWS MARY MATHEWS DWAIN MCCANN RAECHELLE MCCANN MARLENE MCGONIGAL GRETCHEN MCKENZIE JOANN MENDICINO LARRY MENDICINO DALE MILNES TIM MINEARD JANICE MITKO DAN MODRO BRUCE MONTAGAZZI CINDY MONTANI KAREN MOORE MARY MORRELL JAMES MURRAY JAMIE MURRAY GRETCHEN MUSSEY ROBERT MYERS JEFF NALESNIK MIKE NARDONE JOHN NAVOLIO MELVA NORTH RONALD ORAVITZ VINCENT ORAVITZ DAWN OWENS LAURA PALAICH MAUREEN PAMER LINDA PANDER RICHARD PANDER demetrious pappan GEORGE PHILLIPS MARGARET PHILLIPS SUE PIETRANDREA BRIAN POMRENKE CYNTHIA POWELL KEN POWELL LYNN PRICE RITA PRICE TONYA PRICE BARBARA RAINES QUEEN RAINES DAN REA TAMMY REBOLD JOHN REEHER SUE REISINGER KATHY RHODES PATTY RICCI DAVE RICHARD BILL RICHARDSON DONNA RICKERT ANGEL ROACH BRIDGET ROBINSON ERNIE ROGERS 66 MARY ANN ROLLINS JOHN ROSS TONI ROSS CHARLES ROSSI DAVID ROSSI MIKE ROTH PATTY ROWE MARY KAY RUKAS TINA SACER JILDA SALLADE DONNA SANNER MARK SCHUPAY CAROLYN SCHWARTZ MICHELLE SCIARRO MARILYN SEMAN NANETTE SHERRILL PAM SHERRILL DEBRA SIMPSON DEE SMITH TAMARA SNEDEKER GUY SPANO ALBERTA SPROWLS KAREN STEEL PAULA STEFURA MELVIN STRALEY MELINDA STUBBS DARRELL TALLMAN ROBBY TALLON 67 GENE TAYLOR LYNN TECK KAREN TELFORD REBA THOMAS CHARLES THOMPSON RICKY THOMPSON MIKE TITA TIMOTHY TRACY DIANNE TRESS DEBORAH TRIMBUR VICKY TRONZO JOE VALENTINE GRETCHEN VAUPEL DAVE VILLA BETTY WAGNER TODD WAGNER 68 JOLENE WALKER JAMES WALLACE TERRI WALLACE PATTY WASHINGTON DORIS WATSON KAREN WATSON BRIAN WHISNANT DANIEL WHITE JEFF WHITE JUDI WHITE TIMOTHY WHITLA TERRI WOLFE SHERYL YEAGER JUNE YOUNG RON YOUNG RON POWELL ED ZUK JUNIORS NOT PICTURED: JOANNE BEVIVINO DAMON BRYANT TERRY COLEMAN WENDY CORBIN SUSIE DAVIS KELLY DWYER TRACY EGGENSBERGER STEVEN GUTHRIE ROBERT HAIRSTON DORIS HAWTHORNE ROBERT HEADLEY DONNA IZZO RANDY KOMPARDO JUDY MCCLINTOCK LISA MCCREA JOHN MCKENZIE TONY MILLER PHILLIP MURPHY SHERI NOBLE MIKE PARRIS JOHN SPEELMAN RICKY STARCHER BREWSTER TAYLOR SHERRI WADE GREG WALKER MIRANDA WASHINGTON RHONDA WRIGHT 69 TAMI STEVENSON Vice President ED STOVER President KEITH ADRIAN NANCY AGNEW CHAUNDRA ALDERETTE GLENN ALEY JAMES AMBROSE GREG ANDROLIA ANGELO ANNARELLA CAROLINE AQUINO GLENN ARMSTRONG LISA BABYOK KELLIE BADGER JAMES BALLARD MILDRED BARROW GREG BEATTY LARRY BELCZYK KEVIN BEVER MELANIE BEVER PAUL BIGSTAFF DEBRA BONANNI CHERYL BORKOVICH DEVIRGE BOWMAN BRIDGET BRICKNER ROBERTA BROGNANO KEVIN D. We are stunned And angry To discover that our friend Was forced to face Too soon What he knew Must one day come. We object regardless: His courage Was best For living And loving. Perhaps he was more alive When he sensed The sharp edge of death Against his breath. Perhaps his disappearance From our sight Came from his trying so hard, As we know he would. To prove that he was alive. He found joy in playing intensely All the games of living— Physical and mental. Even in his last moments, We assume He was playing For one last shot On breakpoint. He would have put All his mind And body And soul Into that one shot. But this time He missed, And we were The losers. Surely he smiled That infectious grin Walked easily to the net, And shook hands With his final opponent. He would be disappointed In us If we didn't tighten the net And cry out: Volley for serve. Bill Kness September 28, 1977 In Memory Of Sam Sheffield For eighteen years, the members of the BFHS community have been the fortunate associates of a very special man. He was known to some as fellow instructor, to others as coach, to others as teacher, but to all, he was a friend. No matter what the role he played at any time, he put into the relationship a part of the man — a man who was understanding. The loss of this man will be felt greatly by many people who have walked the halls of BFHS, both past and present. Perhaps, the greatest loss will be for those who will never know Mr. Samuel Sheffield, for his lessons were not just in the science of biology, but in the experiences of life. It is certain that our respect for him will never die, that the knowledge he passed to us will not be forgotten, and that the memory of the man will never fade—for he was loved by us all. JACKSON G. The 1977-78 edition of the Fighting Tigers started out slow but finished in the usual Tiger fashion with seven wins and two losses. In the non-conference game against Chartiers Valley, the Tigers went down in defeat 36-33. Opening the Midwestern AA Conference, the Tigers were clamped by Freedom 20-6. The only fulfilling feature for the Tigers was an 88-yard punt return by Jerry Moye for the only Tiger score. The Tigers gained their first win against Ellwood City by a score of 13-7. Collins had 152 yards, rushing in 19 carries. Veon had 54, and Moye 52 yards. The Tigers then went on to blast Sharon 33-0. Tony Scarazzo summed up the game when he said, You saw the real Tigers tonight. We have been pussycats up to now, but we are rolling. The third straight win for the Tigers was over Beaver 35-21. Coach Larry Bruno called it the complete football game. The Tigers then went on to defeat Farrell 33-0. The Tigers rolled up their third straight shutout with 35-0 victory over Center. Tom Mittica kicked five perfect placements. Leading the defense was Tony Omogrosso who had ten tackles. Lance Walker was in on nine while Don Hazen had eight. Mike Lupo was in on seven. Finally came the game of the season, the reunion of the river rivals. The Tigers maintained their dominance with a 35-7 crush over New Brighton. Moye had ninety-nine yards on sixteen carries and two scores. Veon added sixty-two yards on eleven carries for two scores. Collins had sixty yards on ten carries. CHEERLEADERS music drama music drama music drama music drama music drama music drama Keeping to tradition, the Beaver Falls Tiger Band spent many long, grueling hours this summer at East Palestine City Park, East Palestine, Ohio, practicing various marching formations and tunes. After much effort, the band members perfected their routines and were ready to begin the busy football season. The drill team and majorettes also worked hard. Under the direction of their new advisor, Mrs. Ruth Conley; Kelly Harrington and Nancy Eiler, drill team co-captains; and Sue Reisinger, head majorette, the girls learned to experiment and work together to perform many new and skillful routines. After the football season had drawn to a close, the band toned down their sound to the concert level. The Concert Band held their annual Winter Concert on February 8, 1978. A few of the selections were as follows: Theme from S.W.A.T., Barnum and Bailey's Favorite, I Write the Songs Mandy, and Parada Espanola. The Jazz Ensemble did their thing by performing such songs as the Pink Panther and Beethoven's Fifth. Immediately after the concert, the band began to work diligently for their Spring Concert. They performed such tunes as Medley from 'A Star is Born', Man of La Mancha, American Folk Rhapsody No. 4, and Blue Bells of Scotland with a trombone solo by Tim Burke. The Jazz Ensemble would up the evening by displaying their talents by playing, Gospel John, Make Me Smile, and Jesus Christ, Super-star. Even with their busy football and concert seasons, the band was also able to participate in many special activities. During the summer they marched in many parades and invitational festivals. The climax of the 1977-78 school year was their three day trip to the famous Apple Blossom Festival held in Winchester, Virginia, held May 4-6. They marched in the festival parade on Saturday, May 6. In their spare time, they toured nearby Washington, D.C. The band members had to spend many long hours raising money to use for these special events, but with the dedication and help of Mr. David Hunter, Mrs. Conley, and the band officers, they were able to attain their goals. This year's officers were: Beth Tita, president; Linda Stowe, vice president; Kelly Harrington, secretary; and Jay Hunt, treasurer. The band had a long, busy year, but to each band member, the time spent in practicing and performing was very rewarding and satisfying. FIRST ROW: K. Orr, K. Badger, E. Hornacek, M. Schupay, C. We thank our professional photographers, Mrs. Pat Gerard and Mr. Michael Sprock, who have aided us with their excellent photographic skills. Much appreciation must also be given to Mr. Donald Hicks and his photography classes, who have been so instrumental in supplying our many photographs. The 1978 TIGER staff also deserves our gratitude for the fine work they have done and for the long hours they have devoted in the preparation of this yearbook. We especially would like to recognize the assistance that Mr. William Singer, our Josten's American Yearbook representative, gave us. In the past year, he was very helpful in the development and completion of our book. Finally, we wish to thank Miss Geraldine Selby, our yearbook advisor, for her patience and understanding, her sound advice and guidance, and her loyal friendship throughout the year. In conclusion, we would like to wish the best of luck to all future TIGER staffs, and we hope that their future years in the new high school will be as pleasant and fulfilling as the years which we have spent in this high school.
