practical experience gained in business courses As the role of business broadens in our society, the need for qualified personnel jumps to new levels. For this reason B.F.H.S. offers many courses to the student who wishes to enter a business career. These students are offered courses with various levels in typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping. Business students may also qualify for a course in office practice where they may gain actual experience in typing tests and school publications, working in the various school-wide offices. Pupils who are involved in the academic program may also take courses in typing and possible shorthand for future use in college. mathematics paved the way to other sciences One great modern mathematician has said that writing the history of modern science without discussing the importance of mathematical ideas would he a little like producing Hamlet without the heroine, Ophelia. Business mathematics, consisting of problems in profits, wages and interests, is necessary for a study of the social sciences. Mathematics is most important in the study of Chemistry and Physics. Those students who are interested in the advanced sciences must prepare for them through the study of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, and additional courses in solid geometry, analytical geometry, or college algebra. In addition to these courses, specially gifted math students at B.F.H.S. may take an intensive course in calculus. In accordance with each department at B.F.H.S., no facet of mathematics has been overlooked. SIDNEY A. KANE 30
