Published by THE STUDENTS OF BEAVER FALLS AREA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL August 1962 Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania 3 foreword Our school year has closed; the activities and hard study of 1961-1962 are over. The seniors, who have departed, remain only as an image. They shall never cast their shadows on BFHS halls as students again. The juniors and sophomores remain at our Alma Mater to present profiles of their character and abilities. The TIGER staff has spent much time compiling the pleasant memories of 1961-1962. The activities of the past year are only shadows, which now follow us. The TIGER attempts to capture the people who cast those shadows on BFHS. We hope you find in these pages pleasant memories of your friends, your school, and yourself. K- • Seniors Honors Underclassmen Music Moieties 5 Thinking of a silhouette we are reminded that lightness is necessary to distinguish it from ordinary darkness. In the same way. Dr. Smith has lighted our school, by his efforts to give it added form and meaning. Due to his foresight, the Shop Annex, Central School, South School, and Senior High Addition were erected. He has expanded opportunities for gifted students in math, science, English, social studies, art, business education, physical education, music, and industrial arts. We appreciate his many efforts toward making our school the best. DR. L. D. SMITH Superintendent of Schools JUNE VOGEL Secretary SHIRLEY CONNER Secretary DR. JAMES A. MOORE Director of Curriculum LEONA CARLISLE Secretary Board of Education Dr. Irving Bennett President Harry B. Fry Eugene DeSimone Vice-President Kenneth Garvin Roy J. Barnes Martha Grossman Robert G. Bedison Wade Keller Albert S. Carbone Irene Knotts Board of Education The Board of Education represents the public in the important task of guiding our schools. These civic minded men and women ‘give freely of their time and energy to supply us with an excellent faculty and tools with which to work. 7 Member not pictured is lihl E. Hoschar RfL J. NEAL MATHEWS Principal If shadows represented deeds, Mr. Mathews would cast a gigantic one. The smooth transference from the old system to the new system, which omits first period, is largely due to his leadership. We are all very proud to have such an efficient, dedicated, and friendly principal. BERTHA COX Secretary 8 JUDY STEFFEN Secretary WILLIAM PARRISH Assistant Principal There is not a shadow of a doubt that Mr. Parrish is a dependable and cheerful worker. His efforts in scheduling, club activities, and guidance are outstanding. The Sophomore and Junior Classes would especially like to express their gratitude for his wise leadership as their sponsor. ELIZABETH FULLERTON Director of Activities Like our own shadows, Miss Fullerton is always near us. Everyone really appreciated her constantly cheerful and helpful attitude. The class of '62 especially would like to thank her for the success of their activities, which she sponsored. 9 VIRGINIA C. Mathematics Mathematics is one of the most fascinating divisions of human knowledge. Roger Bacon termed it the key and gate of the sciences. Bacon said sciences, because mathematics is not only vital to such fields as physics and chemistry, but it is also the key to language, social sciences, and the arts. The mathematics department gives to each BFHS graduate the key to a world made up of sciences. Music The spiritual harmony men call music is a convincing force in the self-expression of truth, goodness, and beauty. People of all ages need the silent, powerful, driving force which music can bring; therefore, to teach a child to love music will eventually influence him in all phases of his life. The possibility of studying four years of Latin, French, or Spanish in BFHS might launch a student on the course leading to any one of these careers.
