This action was not of my own free will and judgment, for an American doesn't decide about taking lflnglish. l was born into it and shall remain in it throughout my life. The only question is, How am l succeeding in it? Am I going to limit my literary success to biogra- phies of G-S, Superman, and Batman? Am I going to say Howgedo when given an introduc- tion to my dream girl? Shall I call her the berries, when compliment- ing her? Seriously though, the English de- partment has done its best to interest me in the study of grammar, good books, and clear and forceful self expression. By the grace of the English department, I am what I am. zfzcvzbrzanf tx fQ5kYW Jmaffiemaficz and claims A -he FACULTY Vi-:RNA V. MCKEE, Geometry and Trigonometry RALPH S. Of course I have had a few right before, but never have I enjoyed this form of mathe- matics so well. Now I fear I'm be- coming a 'tsoftyf' for I actually keep looking forward to each goemetry class. Hut why not? Maybe there is some good in mathematics. Napol- eon said, The advance and the per- fecting of mathematics are closely joined in the prosperity of a nation. I cannot tell you Whether there's going to be a third term, what effect ladies' styles will have on the European situation or whom Baby Sandy will marryg but I can tell you why you get a loaf of bread for ten cents when it costs the baker six cents to make it, who the twenty- third president Was, and why Napol- eon was defeated. The obvious reason for studying foreign languages is to obtain a Wee bit of culture, but digging deeper, I've found other reasons. When you take French, you get more than verb endings and daily exercises. You learn about the French people-their thriftiness, inventive genius, customs, and contributions to civilization.- The fascinating life of the ancient Romans is revealed through the translation of renowned Works of the Latin poets and orators. sfzcz 'zfmznfi wi' 'W Q Ommsfzcia FACULTY JUNE T. It is no wonder that the Beaver Falls teams have been known for their fighting spirit, for their coach is a true lighter. He has done his best to teach the boys to play real football. l am putting Coach Walton down on my best friend list. was LESTER L. HARR Did you see the new suits the team have? It sure was swell of Mr. Harr to manage to get shall remember Mr. Harr as the faculty manager of athletics. ALURED C. RANSOM Slim, just the man to help Coach Walton, is quiet some- times but is full of that old chatter on the football field. ROBERT HILL lt's no wonder the team is crazy about the trainer, Bob Hill. He's really swell, and what he doesn't know about first aidf-well, that just isn't worth knowing. 'jfia Ootgaff Sc? ua SEPTEMBER 21 Today I Went down and watched the football team practice. I never saw a better looking squad in my life. They were full of pep and showed that they were really interested in football. They were in fine physical condition and I'm sure will be a credit to our school. DECEMBER 4 I have been looking back over the Beaver Falls football season, and I must say it had its ups and downs. There was the heart-breaking defeat at the hands of the county champs at Ambridge, and the glorious victory over Brighton. Even with the bad breaks and tough opposition, this ycarls team lacked none of the traditional Tiger spirit. OMoGRosso GRABOWSKI CLEARY SMAKOSZ GRooM HoUsEHOLDEl , A W AVA Y, V V W An M Y Y 0 F. The Beaver Falls stands actually shook with the volume of shouts that rose when little Al Macioce fought his way over the goal line with the Hrst touchdown for Beaver Falls. When our team made two more touchdowns, the rivals stood silent with grief, while the Tiger's loyal support- ers went wild. I yelled and yelled, until now I canit even whisper. The most ditliculf, problem in basketball is a snap for Slim's keen mind. The most remark- able thing about him is that he never seems excited but always remains the calm, suave gentleman. After losing Rayz and Woodski, it took a While for the team to get adjusted, but they soon snapped out of it when Goddard, Platacz, and Franzini made the baskets hot with those sizzling shots. They really proved to be very entertaining and successful. For the first time, as a climax to the year's Work the gym classes of all the schools in the county held a May Day Festival on our Athletic Field. At that time our parents and friends Were given an oppor- tunity to see a demonstration of the regular and special gym activities, drills in tumbling, scarf and country dances, march- ing pattern and hand apparatus. A flag drill of all the con- testants singing God Bless America concluded the festival. 951171 7 Gqtfifatic leads 'ci cqatioitiu gizfaf Gqfgfsfic faadazal Yesterday, I heard someone discussing the purpose of the Girls' Athletic Leaders' Club. It is to aid in the development of our physical life and at the same time to develop our sense of friendship, leadership, character and good sportsmanship. To be eligible for membership, one must have all these quali- fications, which are essential in any girl Who seeks to live up to the standards of our high school. We have the opportun- ity to earn three school letters, the third one being our tiger head. l envy the girl in our class Who will receive the ath- letic pendant for the greatest number of points earned in participating in any of our intramural activities.
