G4 6 W HA. ,, SEPTEMBER Labor Day. the teachers got together for the first time this year and received their instruc- tions-as if they needed any. First day of school, the seventh graders are getting smaller every year. Friday, the first all school mixer this year, sponsored by the S. S. C. -An all school assembly, a fellow showed us the various cuts of meat and how to cut them. -Baraboo kind of rubbed our nose into the ground, we lost our first football game 7-0. -' Cooney eleven managed to tie us at 13-13. OCTOBER -The B squad showed the varsity how to play football when they odorized Mayville 18-0 in their first game of the year. -We managed to hold Berlin or Berlin managed to hold us to 7-7 on the gridiron. -We trimmed West Bend 26-0, need I say more? -Report cards, that is all I have strength to say, and I won't say any more. -The student council sent some of its representa- tives to Madison for the state student council convention. Hammond and Crinion had to hurry back in order to play Northwestern prep. This game was substituted for Horicon which was quarantined for infantile paralysis. We won 33-7. -The seventh graders had a party for their par- ents. -The Beavers won a trilling postponed Home- coming game with Horicon 20-7. -Pictures were bein taken to fill the arts of 8' P this book that I couldn't fill in this fashion. This was the Book Week assembly sponsored by the Library Club. -Lfhe Presidents' Thanksgiving vacation, ours oo. We battled and defeated Watertown in our gym, as our first basketball opponent of the season. Three one-act plays, The Powers That Be , Murder of a Detective, and Evening Dress Indispensable, were given at the Wayland hall. DECEMBER The Platteville teachers showed us how they had learned to sing. Corporal Bob Inngleston gave us a very good picture of what war is like. Ruth Stangl was the Christmas queen in the Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade. The bowling season opened. We listened to Ed. Rowlands tell of his auto- graph collecting, which he presented in an as- sembly program. The eighth graders entertained their parents at the high school. The play A Sign Unto You was given by members of the Talk, Walk, and Act Club. We trimmed Berlin at basketball on their fioor, 29-34. We watched some musclebound, co-champion Davids receive their football awards at the assembly. Watertown managed to squeeze two too many points out of us at the basketball game there. The debators went to Waupun to debate Hori- con, Pardeeville, and Waupun. The annual S. S. C. Goodwill Christmas party was held in the gym. W . S I 7 i Y s .1 if E 21.21. 1 Indian dances were presented by the Laubins. Woo-woo! ! The school was presented a Christmas program by the music and speech organizations. Stoughton took a lesson in basketball, a non- conference game. We played Columbus in another non-conference game. At the close of the day the Christmas vaca- tion started. The alumni took a beating at the hands of the varsity basketball team, 34-22. JANUARY Mayville learned what it meant to buck Beaver Dam's team, 40-21. Classes were resumed. Everyone had that rested look vf?J. Hartford kind of upset us in a close one 28-26, our first conference game defeat of the season. The debators debated Stoughton in an assem- bly program today and lost. We had a good time watching the junior high give some exhibition boxing bouts. Clarence Sorenson told us what life was like in Arabia and Mexico, in the first of the In- stitute of Understanding assemblies. Cooney lost, 33-22, on our floor. Some Swiss Yodelers sang for us at an assem- bly program. Doctor Alberts talked on the Youth of Japan and Germany, second in the series of Institute of Understanding. Beaver Dam nearly lost to Ripon. DeLoss Walker told of Human Values in a Changing Order. His one hundred dollar bill amazed some of the students. It was real. Our basketball team defeated the Waupun team on their floor. Mr. Sollman, formerly an outstanding and in- fluential German in Germany, was the last speaker for the Institute of Understanding, speaking on An Impoverished World. Theodore Schreiber, lecturer and explorer, gave a very interesting assembly program on Mexico and Central America. Our gym was packed to see our basketball team battle Horicon. What a game! All College Day. The juniors and seniors heard Mr. Vander Lugt, president of Carroll College, talk on training beyond high school and higher education. After that the seniors had an opportunity to interview representatives from many colleges. The senior high boxing elimination exhibition was held in the gym. The S. S. C. girls entertained the junior girls at the Junior-Senior Tea. Beaver Dam played West Bend at basketball on their door. On this day our Romeos gave special atten- tion to that fair one . The ninth graders entertained their parents at the last of the Jr. High parties. The play 'The Truth About Those Tarts was given by the Talk, Walk, and Act Club members. This is the day when this publication was sent to press. From now on we had to use our pre- dicting ability. Those taking stamps were entertained by the Melodears at an assembly program. This was a String Arts Ensemble. We played our last conference basketball game against Columbus, on our floor. The beginning of Lent changed our social af- fairs. The Canfield Cook assembly was presented for the benefit of those taking stamps. Mr. Cook gave a talk on aviation. 7. The annual tuberculosis tests were given at thc high school. 8. Portagerbrought its boxers here. 10-14. Easter vacation. 18. King Dale Muenchow and his charming queen, Barbara Hutter, led the dancers in the annual Junior Promenade. 22. Beaver Dam was host to Oconomowoc and VVatertown at the Tri-City Music Festival. 23 Our musicians went to Oconomowoc for the Music Festival. 29.
