CLASS HISTORY Are you weary and oppressed? Do you long for a remedy for this affliction? If so, I have iust the thing you want. Do you like trips? I dol How would you like to come on one with me? We are going to start at Beaver Creek High School, where members of the Senior class are preparing for their graduation. They are going on the trip with us, in fact, they are the reason for the trip. Oopsl I forgotl I haven't introduced myself. I am Saint Micheal. I met the seniors three years ago when Beaver Creek came into existence. ln our Freshman year we were attending three different schools: West Jefferson, Fleetwood, and Elkland. Then in '53 the schools were consolidated in a beautiful, newly-erected building at Beaver Creek near West Jeffer- son, N. C. For those of you who do not know me, I am iust a mythical old saint who has grown tired of shining halos and who enioys rubbing elbows with mortals. So much for the preliminary, one of the advantages of being a resident of the Heav- enly Kingdom is possessing magical powers. Now relax while my magic power transports us to Beaver Creek, where the seniors are waiting. See, there they ore, anxious to start retracing their three happy years of high school at Beaver Creek. Seniors, do you remember your first year at Beaver Creek? The bigger part of that year was spent in learning all the new rules and regulations and getting acquainted with everyone. That year you were under the supervision of Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Barlow, and Mr. Moretz. They were wonderful supervisors, weren't they? That year your class officers were: Carl Wy- att, President, Imogene Gentry, Vice-President, Sue Williams, Secretary, Carol Phillips, Treasurer, R. Z. Miller, Reporter. Jama Keene and Carol Wyrick made the Varsity cheerleading team, and Elva Roten made Junior Varsity. Leonard Severt made the Varsity basketball team that year, all the girls kept yelling for Leonard at all the games. Three of the Sophomore girls were chosen for the debating team: Betty Lawrence, Linda Reeves, and Mary Davis, who did a wonderful iob and won honors for our school. You acquired a new role as upperclassmen, for in l954, you were juniors. With this position came responsibilities and privileges. Again you find warm friends in your sponsors: Mr. Hardin, Mrs. Barlow, and Mrs. Barr. Helping them lead you to a happy iunior year were your class officers: Barbara Lawrence, President, Ronda Bledsoe, Vice-President, Betty Miller, Sec- retary, Reece Graham, Treasurer. That year all you Juniors had a wonderful time planning your Junior-Senior Banquet. Everyone was willing to work, and most all the group took an active part in decorating the cafeteria and planning the menu. Then came the big night, everyone certainly looked wonderful--the girls in their formals and the .boys in suits. The night of the commencement, as you stood up to accept the challenge the seniors left, your heads were held high, for you were the future class of l956. Seniors ..... didn't it seem strange to be called by this title after three long years of waiting? This year your sponsors were Miss Trivette and Mr. Atwood. Their roles cannot be underestimated, for they gave gladly of their time, patience, and understanding. This was all to make your last year at Beaver Creek full of happy memories. Your class officers were: Ralph Howell, President, Shelby Walters, Vice-President, Betty Howell, Secretary, Melba Watson, Treasurer. That year two of the seniors did outstanding jobs as editors: Linda Reeves, Editor of The Bridge, Betty Lawrence, Editor of The Ripple. This year you took your seats at the far left of the auditorium. Yes, at last you had the right to wear a class ring--as a matter of fact, the biggest event that took place at the beginning of the year was measuring for class rings. From your Senior Class that year Shelby Walters and Wayne Bare were elected as Mr. and Miss Beaver Creek. Remember those football games? Captain Reece Graham, and Leonard Severt making all those touchdowns, and all the other senior boys who did a wonderful iob. Again that year the Junior-Senior Banquet was held in our school cafeteria with you as honored guests. But the big moment came when you received your diplomas. The time to end our trip draws near. I, Saint Micheal, have enjoyed this trip with you. BETTY and BARBARA LAWRENCE Historians Knowledge is more than equivalent to force. --Johnson
