jKainsai 1965 In the spring of 1961, a group of excited youngsters proudly walked across the stage to receive their eighth grade diplomas. Since then, we have gone forth to participate on the football field and basketball court. We have cheered from the sidelines as cheerleaders and spectators. We have participated in all extracurricular activities and have gone on pil- grimages to Winston-Salem. But now, four years later, it is time to pre- sent an account of all we have done. So now, with loving pride, the Class of 1965 presents to you the 1965 MAINSAIL. Picture courtesy of Jerry Schumacher Thecficate . . . Uo SBeaufort SH]jh School; As the last class to graduate from Beaufort High School we feel a special kinship to the many classes that have gone before us and to the traditions of Beaufort High School. No longer will Freshman flock in four-abreast or Seniors march out sedately in single file. The illustrious Seadog will be gone, but the memory of this famous name will never fade. With these thoughts in mind we dedicate the 1965 Mainsail to Beaufort High School. % a Ueacher: Since we have been in high school, and even before, this teacher has been a special part of our class. Not only has she been a teacher, but a friend and advisor in many ways. Her ideas and influence have been ever helpful in planning class acti- vities. It is especially fitting that we should dedicate this, the last edition of the MAINSAIL, to a person who has helped with it for so many years, and was herself the editor in her senior year at BEAUFORT HIGH . . . Our class has made numerous contributions to the school and to the town in which we live. Our class boasts many outstanding students in scholas- tic activities and athletics. We feel sure that we have upheld and improved the record of Beau- fort High School. We realize, of course, this could not have been possible without the help of our faculty and principal. To them we extend our most humble thanks for helping us, the graduating class, to become one of the greatest in the annals of Beaufort High School. 14 MARY ELIZABETH BELLAMAH Beanie Not always smiling but at least serene. We have many outstanding students who can readily represent us as scholars and athletes. We have twenty-one participants in varsity competition and twenty-three members of the Beta Club. Although we have achieved much since we entered high school, much remains to be accomplished. As Juniors, then as Seniors, we must strive to better ourselves and prepare to take our places in the world. What lies ahead of us we cannot foresee, we can only do our very best now in preparation for what will come. 44 Julius Adair Ricky Allen Catherine Arrington Chuck Ballou Cynthia Beacham Kay Beveridge Annette Bowles Jackie Bridgers Johnny Brooks Joyce Brooks Bryan Carraway Richard Carraway Mildred Cashwell Patsy Chunn Terry Chunn David Clawson Sharon Cook Brenda Courtney Lee Crumbacker Jennifer Darling Chuck Davis Gray Davis Amy Dickinson James Dickinson Richard Dudley Linda Dunnavant Faye Edwards Pat Flowers Jerry Frivance Shirley Fulcher Kay Fulford Faye Garner Jackie Garner Laurel Garner Janice Graham Elaine Hatsell Ria Hodges Wayne Hollifield Nancy Hooper Judy House Theresa James Bill Jarman Brenda Jones Herbie Lewis Kay Lewis Larry Lewis Thompson Lewis Sally Lindquist Connie Locker Michael Long Mary Lupton Charles Mason Stevie Mason Buddy McCarthy Robert McKee Leroy McIntosh Danny McLawhorn Johnny Merrill Leslie Moore Susan Nelson Robert Norris David Paden Joyce Pake Ben Piner Saundra Piner Roy Piver Albert Pokrzywa Rose Marie Powell Ervin Pratt Sandra Purkerson Louise Rhue Suthy Rhue Mary Ann Roarty Danny Rumer Ted Salter Freddy Sawyer Wade Skarren Teresa Sealy Brenda Sewell Marie Sordilla Susan Springle Faye Styron Cecil Swain Gerald Taylor Linda Taylor Ricky Taylor Bobby Temple Linda Temple Virginia Thomas June Kay Thomas Linda Tilghman Sue Van Etten Sarah Vinston David Wheatly Bill Whitehurst Barbara Williams Eddie Willis Sharon Kay Willis Allen Woodard John Young 46 Sop£( o mores Secretary Treasurer Linda Lewis Rod Simpson OFFICERS Vice-President President Reporter Sandra Buck Chris Sabiston Lynn Moore JJresicfenPs JTtessaye We, the Sophomore Class, have progressed to another rung of the scholastic ladder, improving both academically and athletically.
