JKainsai 1964 Jjres en tation We stand upon a threshold. Behind us is a world of books and slide rules, teachers and counselors, hopes and ideals, laughter and tears. What we have learned during these brief years is immeasurable. What we hope to learn in the future is even more so. Before we cross into the unknown world before us, we pause, turnback, and hand to those behind us a white book filled with memories. This book contains the elusive heart- beat of a school. It is a final tribute to that which we know and love. With this in mind we, the Senior class of Beaufort High School, lovingly present to you our 1964 MAINSAIL. Dedication Mrs. Harriet James Three years ago we were first touched by the influence of a person we have come to love. Through her help and understanding, especially during our Junior year, we came to realize the value of her friendship. The guidance and help we received far ex- celled the gratitude we expressed. Now in our Senior year we look back and realize how much this person has done and how unselfishly she has given of herself for our class. Atthis memorable time we wish to express our thanks for her time and patience which has always been available to us when we needed it. With this thought we dedicate the 1964 MAINSAIL with all our love and all our memories to you, Mrs. Harriet James. 2 cunscii PAT SMITH Assistant Editor GAY FELTON Editor-in-chief RICHARD STANLEY Business Manager CLEM WOODARD Assistant Business Manager PUBLICATION STAFF Brenda Rose, Chairman; Janet Leonard SPORTS STAFF Wayne Merrell; Fran Potter; Not pictured, Chris Pake, Chairman; Eleanor Patter- son PICTURE STAFF Dail Barbour, Chairman; Tina Willis; Tommy Piner; Jennifer Rose 5 PUBLICITY STAFF Irene Whitehurst, Chairman; Clara Quidley CIRCULATION AND LITERARY STAFFS Suzanne Guthrie, Chairman; William Tay- lor; Gerald Austin; Linda Lewis; Virginia Jones; Not Pictured, Anna Salter 7n Appreciation Although Miss Lena Duncan is no longer one of our teachers, we feel that the lessons learned through her teaching and example will be of value to us for the rest of our lives. We consider her a part of our class with pride and love. We can never adequately return the time and guidance she has given us but we can express our admiration and gratitude. To Miss Duncan, we leave our best wishes and enduring devotion. 6 Albert R. Gainey, Principal A wide and wonderful world awaits you. With your experiences and determination to excel, who could fail to succeed? I challenge you face the world with all your might! Give it all you have! It is evident that the accomplishments of our class will be hard to equal. It is true that our class will leave behind many fond memories. It is also true that we must now forget the past and look to the future. We feel that the guidance given us over the past years will help us to make our future as gratifying to ourselves and those around us as our past has been. It is with this hope that we thank and salute you, Beaufort High School. 14 GERALD DARYL AUSTIN ’’Jerry” He enters a room voice first. Glee Club 4; J.V. Basketball 1,2; J. V.
