1 DEDICATION Since we have entered high school, our lives have been affect- ed by many individuals. Among these there is one that stands out in our minds. This person has given to us through guidance and encouragement much time and effort. Our deep feeling of appre- ciation for this particular man stems from his having come to Beau- fort just as we entered high school. Being truly grateful for the op- portunities extended to us by him we are honored to dedicate this edition to our Principal. We, the Seniors, therefore, dedicate the 1963 MAINSAIL to MR. ALBERT R. GAINEY, with deep appreciation and sincere thanks. 2

PRESENTATION At last we are seniors, and to many it would seem that we have finally attained our ultimate goal. Yet, it is only in being seniors that we realize that we have completed but one step towards fulfilling our goal of success in life. We stand now on the threshold of decision. The knowledge which the last twelve years have lent us has come about through the devotion and understanding of our faculty and advisors, and it is upon this knowledge that we shall lean in making these all-important decisions. Our high school days have been filled with many fond memories which we shall not soon forget. We have risen with the thought of that which we have achieved in the past, and will strive with what we have learned to better ourselves in future years. Thus, it is with high hopes and fond memories that we leave with you this, our 1963 MAINSAIL. No matter how high we rise, We discover infinite distances above. —Parlette 01012353484823482348535353535353480102

The call to make human life in this world happier, more useful and brighter, is real and imperative. Christians look to the Word of God as a source of help, some inkling of what should be done to meet pre- sent and future problems. I challenge you to go forth into this complex and difficult world and love it for all the challenges and opportunities it offers. Try to do for men rather than covet their possessions. Keep in mind that a truly successful life is not made by taking for yourself that which others have a right to share, but by ren- dering to others that which is worth more to them than they give in return. Live in such a way that you can say with James Russell Lowell: God bends forth from the great deep and says, 'I gave thee the great gift of life; Wast thou not called in many ways? Are not my earth and Heaven at strife? I gave thee of my seed to sow, Brought thou me a hundred fold! ’ Can I look up with my face aglow And answer, 'My Father, here is Gold'. 3
