the.. . . McUtuiail I PRESENTATION In these pages the Annual Staff has attempted to capture the spirit of B.H.S. We have pu t a lot into this annual and as a result this Mainsail is the heart of our high school years. In it resound the heartbeats of work, of long remembered good times, of careful studying, of school activities, and of thrilling sports. This annual has been our class' greatest and most rewarding undertaking. We hope you will en- joy it as much as we have and that in the future as you turn through its pages, you may be taken back through the high school years of our class of '58. We greatly appreciate the part the merchants have taken in making our annual possible. It is indeed good to know that so many people are in- terested in what is so important to our school. Our deepest thanks go to the teachers whose gracious attitudes have so helped us. What pa- tience you have shown and how grateful we are to you! THE EDITOR PRESENTED BY THE 1958 SENIOR CLASS OF BEAUFORT HIGH SCHOOL BEAUFORT, NORTH CAROLINA% e edlicate. Through the years that we have been with her, she has proven herself to be the ultimate in all the greatest virtues one can think of. She has been patient and understanding despite every snare, and there have been many. Every day she bestows her kindness and love on us. Her tolerance is beyond human apprehension. She has tried every possible way to give us knowledge from her own greatstore of wisdom, and she has tried unceasingly to instill in us a love of learning and to inspire us to life's greater things. Thus, having been taught and guided by onesuch as you, we feel that if we can make ourselves resemble the kind of person you are, that we will be the better kind of person that the world needs today. And so. We the Senior Class of 1958, as an expression of our deep love and gratitude, dedicate the MAINSAIL to you, MRS. MILDRED LAWRENCE. Ptii+tcijxcil'4, MeA,4,a j,e Our Seniors are to be congratulated for the fine annual our school has this year. It shows good planning, and hard work on the part of those responsible. The futurefor our young peoplehas never been brighter for those who have prepared themselves adequately. May each of you find success and happiness in the years ahead. Be contributing members of your communities, and build homes of strong character. The cradle of a democracy such as ours is to be founded and expressed in the homes we make. S. come to a close, it is with a feeling of pride that we look back on the past twelve years. Out of our class have come many outstanding students; both in athletics, and other activities. We have helped raise the scholastic standards and have contributed much toward upholding the good record of our school. Yet, through the years we will realize that we have received much more than we have given. Our thanks to our beloved principal and to our faculty for helping us the grad- uating class of '58 to become one of the greatest in the Annuals of B. H. S. HELMUT TRESCHAM .....President Vice-President .....Secretary .....Treasurer JUNIOR PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE At last we carry the proud title of Juniors, and we leave behind the burdens of our Freshman and Sophomore years. We like to think of our class as just a little bit better than the rest. We boast two cheerleaders, five ma- jorettes, four band members, twelve members in competitive sports, and distinguished participants in every club in high school. We can now carry our heads high, for upon us falls the responsibility for the biggest event in high school, the Junior-Senior Banquet. But we aren't worried. Withour many hard workersand able faculty advisers, we are as- sured of a smashing success. We turn our eyes now upon the Seniors. Next year we will be taking their place. We know that much work stands between them and us, but we will make it. I know we will. We have taken a large part in the activities of high school. Six of our boys play football. Many of our boys and girls participate in basketball. Their mark has already been made in this sport, because one of the boys was chosen for the first string All- Seashore Conference team his Freshman year. We have three representatives for both cheerleader and majorette. Various clubs boast members from our class. Before we leave the Sophomore class to become Juniors, we will have endeavored under the guidance of our teachers to contribute something of value to our school and to the improvement of our class.
