Coach Elliotts Orangemen came hack to defeat Crete 25-0. Ising a passing attack and a running attack they showed their greatest offensive power. B.H.S. reserves hegan the season by defeating Barneston 13-0. then losing a tough game to Crete 6-0. The junior Orangemen downed Lincoln High Sophomores T-6 in a close game. Speedy Northeast dropped the reserves 12 to 0. Sophomore Bob Holt turned in good time, 4.44 in the mile. The Orange cindermen took second place in a triangular meet with Northeast first and Fairbury third. Gerald Eden paced the Orangemen with 10 points by winning the shot and discus. He set a new record in that event for Beatrice. l1eatrice's two mile relay team of Penner. Kollekowski. Wacker. and Holt took fourth in the York llelays. The li. H. 5. trackmen placed sixth in the llastings Relays. Bob Holt in the mile was the only gold medal winner. Bill Bauer placed fourth in the low hurdles. Freshman l.aVerne Pohlenz tied for third in the pole yault. and the 880 yard relay team took fourth. Swimming. basketball. and handball are activities in addition to calisthenics. A ping-pong tournament proved to be an inter- esting event for the boys. Numerous other con- tests are held in badminton and exercises. When- ever weather permits. activities are held outside in the Athletic Park. Through the capable direction of Mary ,lo Gish. girls' physical education instruc- tor. the sophomore gym classes not only train the body but create sportsmanship and cooperation. As an open air activity. classes played field hockey' at the athletic field early' in the fall. Throughout the rest of the year teams were organ- ized to compete in deck tennis. badminton. ping- pong. and basketball. Volley ball and tumbling also proved to be popular in the classes.
