PRINCIPAL Mr. Miller, our principal, directs the af- fairs of B. H. S. with fairness and a firm hand. In addition to his numerous duties as principal he trains future secretaries in office training. SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Gard, our superintendent, has served the Beardstown schools for twenty-eight years with efficiency, patience, and under- standing. He is also active in the Rotary Club and his church, and belongs to many professional organizations. IN MEMORY June 13, 1896-June 23, 1955 Miss Harriet J. Maltas served as an un- derstanding teacher in our high school for thirty years. The inspiration and guidance which she gave to her students will be re- membered for many years. The 1955 Annual dedication is a true ex- pression of her work in every task she un- dertook. She has won more than this diminuitive honor through her many years of untiring service to the Tiger, her per- sistent faithfulness to its publication and her achievement of the high standard of the finished product which she has attained each year. Tigers Win Midwest Conference Coach Carter's Tigers ended the 1955 football season with the most successful record since 1948. They had a 6 and 2 record for the year and concluded the season by winning the Midwest Conference Championship. The Tigers averaged over 27 points a game, while holding their opponents to 13. Three members of the team, Dick Bingham, Bill Moore and John Schultz, won dual honors by being named to the Central Conference All-Star team and receiving honorable mention on the All-State team. Co-captains for the season were Dick Bingham and Dick Vancil. Tigers Wallop Rockets B In baseball Coach Lewis' Tigers were hampered in their first few games because of lack of practice due to weather conditions. It wasn't until the fourth game, when the Tigers beat Feitshans 6 to 5, that they settled down to play good ball. In their next outing the Tigers walloped Rushville 12 to 2. In the following two games the Tigers lost close ones to Lanphier and Notre Dame. The Tigers then traveled to Rushville where they de- feated the Rockets 14 to 11. In the last game of the regular season the Tigers lost to Jacksonville in a Cen- tral Conference game. TRACK Four of Squad Qualify for State Track Meet On opening day 30 boys, including 10 let- termen, reported for track. In the first meet of the year the Tigers lost a close dual at Jack- sonville. The Tigers then traveled to Havana where they came out on top of a three cor- nered meet with Havana and Rushville. In the Midwest the Tigers finished a close second to Macomb. On May 3 the Cass County meet fe was held in Beardstown, with the Tigers cop- ping first place with 82 points. In the strong Central Conference meet at Springfield the Tigers took sixth place. Four members of our track squad received honors by qualifying for the State: Bingham, Schultz, Matthews, and Vancil in the 880 yd. relayg and Vancil in the 220 yd. dash. Members of the editorial staff, whose job it is to gather and organize material for the book, may be seen almost every day working over stacks of pictures, layouts, and copy.
