UST THE RIGHT. . . HOMECOMING Emerald Night omecoming was originally a term used to describe alumni returning to see the first home game of their col- lege football team. Although alumni still come and see the game, this tradition gave rise to much more than just their return. Today, homecoming consists of elegant din- ing, fancy dresses, a beautiful corsage, a clean shaven face, and tons of pictures, topped off by a wonderful dance. On October 3rd, Bear Creek students, accompanied by gorgeous weather and enthusiastic partici- pants, danced the night away in a finely decorated but barely recognizable gymnasi- um, highlighted in emerald green deep black, and sparkling silver. Senior homecoming candidates Mary Kay Distefano, Carrie Chavatal, Dana Stark, Daphne Gallegos, Missy Coffey, Alison Marrs, Mike Faulkner, Cory Ryckman, Shane Foster, Shawn Monahan, Mike Batti- lega, and Chris Cunningham waited anx- iously for that climactic moment at half- time when Missy Coffey and Shane Foster became the class of '88's homecoming queen and king. Homecoming will always be a special oc- casion in the lives of those that it touches. It is something everyone should experience at least once, senior Kristen Hansen ex- pressed. Dinner was a great start to a fun evening. I haven't laughed that much in a long timej' Jennene Vogel ex- pressed. Good try guys! vlaran Doggett leads the teachers in a parade of spirit. HOMECOMING Full Of Pride Q Q uring my five year principalship here at BCHS, I found that the spirit during the 1987 Home- coming was at an all time high, expressed principal Dr. Doggett. The high energy and the enthusiasm during Homecoming Week capped off the events of the week with a bang. I think that Homecoming was a great time to get rowdy and to show school spirit, remarked sophomore Kristi Gregg. The tra- ditional Homecoming assembly was marked by surging optimism and a prevalent sense of unity. The assembly consisted of a slide show, a nostalgic and amusing teacher's skit, class relays, performances by the poms and the cheers, the introduction of the Home- coming royalty, a spirit war, and the award winning airband, Los Lobos performing La Bamba. The week was also enriched by the students displaying their school spirit during the dress up days. The days included Hippie Day, Walt Disney Day, Reggae Day, Vogue! Preppy Day, and Green and Gold Day. Sr. Diana Schaack expressed, Homecoming gives us the opportunity to share school spir- it, but best of all, it gives us a memorable experience that we can look back on as we grow older. I loved watching the Homecoming pa- rade. It was one of the best that I've ever seen! enthused French teacher Ms. Law- rence. This year's traditional Homecoming parade was filled with high spirits and an unmistakenly abundant amount of energy, vivacity, and pride. Led by the powerful and award-winning BCHS Marching Band, the parade consisted of over 8 floats, and a long processional of various students and teach- ers displaying their spirit. Finally, the end of the parade was drawn to a close by a car caravan of spirited students who wanted to express their love and their pride for the home of the Bears, Bear Creek High. La Bamba features Tony Pedrett. What a BODY guard. Homecoming 9
