CLASS PROPHECY May 22, 1966 turned out to be a rainy day. The pre- ceding days in May had, of course, been beautiful, but the day of the reunion of the class of 1956 will be tomorrow, so we'll probably have rain everywhere. Our class had decided to hold the reunion at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. Since I had been taking most of my vacations by train, I thought it a good idea to go by TWA Airlines this year. When I arrived to get my reservation at the Des Moines airport I found, to my great surprise, the reservationist to be Barbara Kopsa, a classmate of 1956. 'What have you heard from our other classmates?n I asked. nJust a few minutes ago Tom Kuhl and Gerald Hansen drove up in their new Cadillac. The two of them are in partnership in a big ranch down in Texas. They bought their tickets for the trip to New York, and are leaving tomorrow morning. That's when I leave, too. WI wonder if any of the other seniors of HS6' will be boarding the plane tomorrow?u I asked. Barb replied, NI go off duty in a few minutes, so I guess we'11 have to wait til tomorrow to find out.' The time came for us to leave. I saw Tom, Gerald, and Barb get on the plane. Just as I was about to board, someone tapped me on the shoulder. To my delight it was Peggy Ladehoff She said she was an assistant nurse to Dr. Larry Zink, who has been doing research concerning asthma. Both were also grad- uates of Beaman High in 1956. We talked for a few minutes and then boarded the plane. During our stop at Detroit, Michigan, we picked up another passenger--a professional basketball player. He turned out to be none other than Tpm Wilson. We had an enjoyable trip to New York--all of us talking over old times. When we stepped off the plane at LaGuardia Field, who was there to meet us but a star reporter from the New York Times. We found him to be Fred Viering. With him was his private secretary, Kathleen Lucas. Both were planning to go to the reunion and were writing a story about it for the paper. After meeting Fred and Kathy we decided to each go our separate ways and do a little.sightsee1ng before the reunion. At noon I stopped for lunch at Radio City Station. Today there were to be two speakers--a senator and a state conserva- tionist. The senator turned out to be Gerald Ralston and the conservetionist, Gary Goettsch. When each had finished his speech they came over to my table. We decided to go to the Waldorf Astoria together. The time for the reunion arrived and as we entered the Waldorf Astoria dining room we were met by Ann Elmore. She was the nutritionist. Behind her I could see Barbara Storjohann, who was a clerk-typist at the Waldorf. We all spent an enjoyable evening reminiscing, before each had to leave to return to his busy life. All are widely separ- ated in their various walks of life, but each has fond memories of the school days spent at Beaman High School.
