We, the Yearbook Staff, dedicate this 1980 yearbook to Mr. George R. Hewes. In the years Mr. Hewes has been with us, he has taught us the importance of thinking for ourselves, being in- dividuals, and having an understanding of our human rights which are so important to the American way of life. Mr. Hewes has made an indelible impression upon all of us who have had the good fortune of knowing him and his influence will always be part of the spirit of Beacon High School. 2

here lived an old miser named g Ebenezer Scrunge who owned a factory in Beacon that produced Varsity jackets and letters. Ebenezer hated his work (except for the money he reaped), hated his employees and hated all high schools and their students. In fact, he only wished to exploit high school students by charging very high prices for his jackets and letters. Worst of all, Ebenezer especially hated Beacon High School and all of its students. He forbid his employees to wear blue and gold. He scoffed at the bulldogs. When anyone mentioned school spirit in front of him, he went into a rage. School Spirit? Bah, humbug! , Ebenezer would say. If I couldn't make a buck off them, I'd just as soon see all the little Beaconites school- spirit themselves into a frenzy and decrease the surplus population! . 3
