FOREWORD This precious year has sped away, borne by an elusive wind. All that remains is fragments of memory: a sound, a sight, a touch. Like the lingering melody of some almost-forgotten lyric, they come drifting back to us when we least expect them. Folk music, in its simple yet meaningful way, expresses some of our deepest emotions and warmest experiences. Originating among the common people, it has survived the test of time and today remains the most explicit summation of our existence. Yet understanding the significance of this year in our lives is a struggle that taunts us with its evasive answers. By uniting the dis- connected memories of the year with lines of folk lyrics, we hope to produce a work that is both expressive of the year and meaningful to all. This is our yearbook. 4
