BAYSIDE HIGH SCHOOL Bayside High School opened its doors on March 16, 1936. Since then, the original student body has grown from 2,300 to 4,400 in 24- years. The present faculty of 184 is more than double the original staff. During his fifteen years as principal, Dr. George J. Crane developed Bayside into one of the finest high schools in the city. In February, 1952, Dr. Mos- kowitz became principal, bringing with him knowledge. experience and a rec- ord of great success in administration. Dr. Moskowitz has taken dynamic ac- tion to refine and expand the instruc- tional program. He has also given the students greater responsibility in stu- dent government. thus teaching them the dynamics of democatic life. Bayside was built at a cost of almost three million dollars. Shaped in a capi- tal 'E', Bayside is still one of the most beautiful schools in the city. The out- side walls are- of limestone and terra cotta. The floors of the spacious halls are of terazzog the side-walls of the cor- ridors are of ltalian marble. The two eighty-foot flag poles are each provided with three sets of Hagsg one for normal use, one for special ceremonies, and one for stormy weather. As an interesting fact, over 4-,000 gallons of paint were used to paint the interior of the school. Today, looking back at the history of the building we are most thankful for our school, where else could you enjoy the fresh air in a wooded park during your lunch period? Where else, indeed, could you have accumulated as many memories and have had so many good times?
