FOOTBALL TKA.M I ndisputed Champs or Hudson County So untrained was the material with which Coaches Lee and Haring started spring training that not even the most hopeful B. H. S. rooter could have predicted that these boys would become the masters of the Hudson County Gridiron. The team, however, sparked by the All-County fullback, Walter Mercer, drove on to win its first game against Hmerson High by a score of 13-0. This game, which was contested at Roosevelt Stadium, was the beginning of Bayonne's glorious march to victory. In the first of a series of home games. Bayonne defeated the defending champs of Henry Snyder 34-0. the highest score ever rolled up by a Garnet and W hite team. Mayor Donovan. Commissioners Mullanaphy and Murphy. I rustee Murphy of the Board of Education, and Dr. Howard E. Mcrity witnessed this triumphant victory. With a score of 24-6 the Lecmcn continued their winning streak by conquering the highly favored Union Hill team. Injuries forced Leonard Lee to the bench for the rest of the season. The one defeat 13-0 experienced by the Garnet and W hite team was due partiallv to the loss of W alter Mercer, who had been injured during practice. Since this game was not in the League schedule, it did not alfect our t ount standing. This defeat had no effect upon the team s spirit, for in the next game the fought Lincoln to a scoreless tie. Close co-operation in the backficld highlighted the next game in which Bavonne defeated St. Michael’s6-0. The linemen with the support of the backficld deserve full credit for Bayonne's triumph over St. Peter's by a score of 6-0. On an exceptionally muddy field, the Lecmcn swamped the Memorial Gridsters 19-13 for Bayonne’s ultimate victory, thus climaxing a record that can be commended by all Garnet and White followers.
