I I I I 14 W Place of Friend hi lt is easy to see that one must work ex- tremely hard to become a winner. But what does one receive from their effort? Baylor is a place where one can receive training in a diversity of areas, in preparation for life outside the bubble. There is one type of training received at Baylor, however. that perhaps gives the Baylor student an extra special type of preparation - it's friendship. The one thing freshman hear and see from the time they arrive. From upperclassmen carrying luggage to your room, to pro- viding a shoulder to cry on when we were homesick, to eating pizza in the hallway at 3 a.m., we saw friendship wherever we were at Baylor. Even the professors were friendly! It was never surprising when they even knew our names by the second w lass. Times will come when our educatio' and experience gained at Baylor, will nc be as important as it once was, whe' even success isn't important anymore But one thing we can know we gaine' from Baylor that will last us forever the ability to give of ourselves and to b given to in return. tw., .. .X 4 Above: Carolyn Agee takes time to talk with a friend. Right: Baylor seems to be concerned with all kinds of people. A favorite event for many is the International Food Fest. Mark Wagner sits with a friend while they enjoy the dinner. Opposite: far right: Homecoming Queen, Donna Reid sits with friends at the game. top: Sorority sisterhood presents a particularly close bond for those involved. Here, Delta Gammas enjoy intramurals. Bottom: A popular place to get away with a friend is the Baylor Marina. 12 Opening

O I I I 14 W The Reason for ictor So, Baylor is a place of winners . . . vic- tory. That makes for a real sense of pride, deservedly so. Pride in our school and hopefully, in ourselves. Baylor stands for so many things, and offers so much to its' students. But if all the academia and involvement were put aside, Baylor still would rise above all the rest, because of what it really stands for, why we really do have reason to feel victorious. Being a Christian, Southern Baptist University, Baylor dedicates its ideals, values, programs and supporters to the purpose of our Heavenly Father. We may not all believe the same at this in- stitution, but we all agree in one Being, who makes all things possible. Baylor encourages, in addition to mental, emo- tional and social growth, spiritual growth. Dr. Reynolds' charge to the graduating class of '86 challenged them 5 Q A to continue their spiritual growth whit either began or was cultivated at Baylc From Welcome Week on, students a. told about a relationship with Iesi Christ, and the importance and respoi sibilities of that. If one could pin dow Baylor's purpose to just one elemen one would almost assuredly say that it to show the freedom that can come wit a spiritual relationship with jesus Christ Above: Shawn Shannon, associate director of the BSU, and Alan Mackenzie help freshman Penni Pi er. Ri ht- Man classes and Bible studies are P 8 - Y held to promote personal spiritual growth. Opposite page: Debbie Wilson meditates in a prayer room. Far right: No, it's not an Arab. Mark Smith helps out Texas student summer missions, by playing in a 25ahour volleyball marathon, sponsored by the BSU. 14 Opening . asm... . limit: zrasggjitzitf Q.: . , ' A W. 1: ?9wf2r,W W W ' 1.5 - -mm W gt , ursw H fa i may W X ,tl 5?
