Above is the Early American Tearoom, developed in the style of a colonial kitchen with a typical fireplace at one end. The fireplace contains a recessed oven and around it are assembled various pots, pans, and brack- ets. Gunracks and colonial lanterns adorn the paneled walls and beamed ceiling. Pine tables, rush-bottomed, ladderbacked maple chairs, a built-in Welch dresser, a corner cupboard, and a long kettle make up the furnishings of the unique room. Five Dutch doors with wrought iron hardware and glazed chintz curtains on the windows provide entrances to Colonial Room. The extreme west end of the main drawing room is shown here with its comfortable lounges, unique tables, and oriental lamps. The latticed grillwork covers pub- lic address, radio, and phonograph speakers. The two doors are entrances to the kitchen and to the Wil- liamsburg Room. The portrait is of Mrs. Rena Marrs McLean, mother of Baylor trustee, Marrs McLean. Her portrait faces the gymnasium named in her memory.
