The hospital also special departments in radioisotope, cardio-respiratory endocrine research. It will soon have a total capacity of 1,568. Total admissions last year were 8,990 with an autopsy rate of 87.5 percent. The new 31.25 million jesse H. jones Building opened in the summer of 1954, with a capacity of 140,000 volumes. It contains over 50,000 volumes at the present time, relating to every aspect of medicine and dentistry. It also has spacious facilities for study, The Doctor's Club, The Institute of Religion, The Harris County Medical Society and other organizational offices. A modern 511 seat auditorium is available. The building was occupied in 1947. JEFFERSON DAVIS HOSPITAL: The present 450 bed City-County facility was opened in 1936, and since 1949 has been staffed by Baylor Medical Col- lege. It is the main teaching hospital for the College and features extensive teaching programs in all the special fields of medicine. A new 720 bed J. D. is proposed for the near future. A. S. TEXAS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL: This modern private-charity pediatric institution was opened in early 1954. It is evaluated at 32.9 million and maintains a large out-patient department along with its 115 bed capacity. D. ANDERSON HOSPITAL AND TU- MOR INSTITUTE: Established by the Texas State Legislature. The new 310 bed, S10 million hospital opened in early 1954.
