1928 THE BAYLSY Q-ANNUAL 1928 VM - - USVI SOPHOMORE A 6,159 N September, 1927, the first stage of our voyage having been completed, 13- -if we dropped anchor in Sophomore Bay. Our ship, the S. S. Class of 1930, was manned by a confident crew, filled with elation at having so successfully passed the shoals and reefs of the Freshman waters. XVe ex- r T T'-14 pected clear sailing, but we soon found that even the most tranquil streams become turbulent at times. VV ith our pilot, we have already navigated one danger- ous channel in the Mid-year Exams, but there remains the narrow strait of the june Finals to be crossed before we may enter the junior ocean. VV'e proved our wisdom in our selection of a Captain, Francis Sweeney, at the beginning of our voyage, and the little, individual logs kept by our pilot in the form of quarterly reports show a fair average. 'We are the first Sophomore class to be downstairs, and we began the semester with an even dozen each of boys and girls. One good sailor strayed away, but he was so fond of our company that he soon returned. We have several personalities in our class. VVe all know a certain musical lad who embraces the latest songs, and seems to believe that he is better late than never . And we are well supplied with gossip also, for another youth has turned his natural tendency to pursue Dame Rumour into a business asset, and is now a cub reporter. And sometimes, too, in the quiet of a study period, a smothered giggle will be heard from the corner, and we are made aware that the latest Bernardsville joke has been sprung. XVe thought Algebra was the worst enemy we could possibly encounter, but we were dismayed at meeting Geometry, while Latin, too, has acquired fresh force. VVe are very much interested in Medieval History and we have added an- other language to our studies. VVe were very quiet socially this year, so our prowess lies chiefly in athletics. XVe are represented on the Varsity by our lone star, jimmy Foran, upon whose shoulders rests the burden of Sophomore glory, and William Dempsey adorns a suit of the junior Varsity. Edward Farrell, who will undoubtedly be the Bayley Varsity's manager in 1929, has guided the junior Varsity through a very successful season. Our boys were unlucky in the Boys' Interclass Tournament, but the Girls, team won a victory in the contest among the weaker sex.. Three members of the Canter Club also come from our class. We are looking forward to the Track meet, and our class cherishes fond hopes of victory. With these few events, our Sophomore Log is closed, but we anticipate a more successful voyage next year.
