The members of the club not only obtained the desired journalistic experi- ence. but they likewise enjoyed the publication of this paper which was so obviously well received and enjoyed by the student body. The instructor, Miss O,Brien, has for years contributed a considerable amount of art work to our annual. and now the art class has relieved her of the burden. Posters, plaster plaques, and sketching constituted most of our work for the first six weeks. During the next six weeks sketching the front of the school building presented a real challenge to the students, but was soon forgotten when the construction of a miniature school house for a testimonial banquet became the delight of the group. Other projects for the year included more posters, clay models, a large imitation stained glass window, portraying the Three Wise Men, and a variety of Christmas gifts. Jeanette Scrafton, one of the members of our class, received honorable mention in the Carol Poster Contest sponsored by the St. Louis Carol Associa- tion. The art students of the county and the city participated in this contest. Cn December ll, the group visited the library where profitable informa- tion was obtained not only from the review of the inspiring Christmas Carol Posters but also from the lectures and tour of the library. Another interesting trip was made to Stix, Baer and Fuller's Assembly Room on March 5 to see a collection of the best works of art from various Missouri High Schools. German Club THE German Club was again organized this year under the capable spon- sorship of Wir. Oberg. our German teacher. Due to recent national events the club name has been changed to the Language Club. The purpose of this club is to rreate a greater understanding for German music. literature and authors. Each week a poem and a short story were read, a geography report was read. and songs were sung. Pictures and slides per- taining to the interests of the club were shown. The increase in membership from seven last lear to twenty-one this year testifies to the reputation the club has gained as a very active and pleasant organization. One half of each meeting is devoted to entertainment in which the members participate. At Christmas the club members exchanged gifts and had a very exciting time. A 4 ,aa- -Z Commercial Club 5.2 'P' t 'mx THl4l Commercial Club was again organized this year under the sponsorship of Miss Fields. A constitution was immediately drawn up which governed the activities of all the members of the club during the school year. The purpose of the club was: to promote interest in the business world and in the study of commercial subjects, to encourage students to become business- minded and to become familiar with modern progressive business methods and systems, and to learn to appreciate the value of good business ethics. As their contribution to the Stunt Night program, the club presented a playlet entitled Boss vs. Secretary, which depicted the great difference between an efhcient and an inefficient secretary. ln order that each student might have a more personal part in the weekly club meetings, a member was selected by the president to sponsor each program. At the end of the year the best program was voted on. and a prize was awarded the winner. Activities during the year included a Christmas party, a trip to a business office. and a business lecture. With such a full program this club hopes that it has in some way contributed to the preparation of its members for a position in the business world. Annual Club, sponsored by Miss Lenz, was an entirely new organiza- tion added to Bayless' list of clubs this year. The members of the club functioned as a group to collect material for the annual. Their special project was to make a collection of snapshots of school life throughout the term so that the student body could have a better remem- brance of those activities and pleasures they had experienced as members of the student body. The club is to be commended for doing so cheerfully much of the routine work on the annual. President ...... ..... C eorge Strahl Vice-President. . . . . .Leonore Gravette Secretary ...... . . . Hubbard, has had its first year at Bayless. Previous to this year Nlrs. Hubbard has taken charge of the music division when clubs were formulated. The presiding officers are given rather unique titles in accordance with old Roman customs. The two consuls. as they are called, are Phyllis Eilenberger and Daniel O'Brien, who preside alternately over the meeting. There is also the scriptor. or secretaryg the quaestor, or treasurer: and the praetor. or sergeant-at-arms. At the meetings talks and reports are given on the origin of various Roman customs. names, and dates. The members also play games originated by the Romans. There was an exchange of presents at the Christmas meeting. Some work has been done on a Latin play. The motto of the club. Omnia Latina studentia venientu, meaning All Latin students are welcome, and the interesting activities of the club will make it one of the most popular at Bayless. The principal activities of the year included participation in Stunt Nite and a lecture attended at St. Louis University. For Stunt Nite, members of the club assisted by the Latin classes dramatized the origin of the titles of the months. The very interesting lecture at St. Louis University was entitled A Walk Through Modern Rome. Legio Latina is a member of the junior Classical League, a national organi- zation, and almost all of the members have a club pin and a certificate of mem- bership. KKB7, Club THE Lettermen's B Club was organized and sponsored by Coach Robert A. Forbes. This club, which is composed of only lettermen in volleyball, basketball, baseball and track was organized to teach the athlete what is expected of him in his capacity as an athlete and to be a sportsman at all times. The club also tried to arouse an interest in sports which are very rarely played at our school. To stimulate such interest Herbert Nlarkwort was invited to lecture to the club on tennis. The lecture was followed by a demon- stration on the vital points in playing the game. If the members ofthe newly formed club can carry out the ideal to be sports- men at all times, it will make better citizens of this generation. The club ofhcials included: President ........... ....
