Senior Prophecy It was a bright sunny day' in May of 1990 and it just happened that I was driving through the town of my old Alma Mater. Bayard, NE. I stopped to pick up a newspaper and it happened to be the Bayard Transcript. so I decided to buy it to see what was going on. As I started going through it, I noticed a lot of familiar names in the news. I see that SHANNON (FARLEY) BOWERS is now editor of the Bayard Transcript. Another person in the news is BRUCE ARMSTRONG. It seems he is the area's new milkman. Unfortunately, the milk never gets on the doorstep because he thinks he is still on his paper route and the throws the milk bottles . hoping for the best. Another item on the front page tells that ROSER1SCHLING has just taken over the job of Pope John Paul and is now addressed as Popette Rose Marie, the First. The biggest story on the front page was about KURT VOGEL. Wouldn’t you know it, it seems Kurt went off the deep end and is now in Hastings Mental Institution. It seems that Kurt tried to set the school on fire. His wife, BARB HUBBARD, head sixth grade teacher, says she will wait faithfully for Kurt to be released. His psychiatrist is CHRIS SCHMALL. As I turn to the society section of the paper I see there arc people from the class of 1980 that made it big. TAMMY LUJAN has made a name foi herself as she is now the leading star in the revised series of “I Love Lucy.” STAN SCH WARTZKOPF also made it big in Hollywood. It seems he has won the all-around rodeo championship for five years straight and is now staring in the revised movie of “The Electric Horseman.” The title of the movie is Short Circuited Bull.” I noticed KATHY FERTIG is now opening in Las Vegas this week in a show called “My Piano and Me.” She has put Libcracc in the poor house. CHARLES MYERS is following in the footsteps of Billy Graham. He is now known as Rev. Chuckic Myers. In another article I read that SYLVIA BUSK IRK is now married to Rodney Picstcr. I here are quite a few new stores open in Bayard. GOOBER HENSON is now head bcancr at the former Trinidad Bean Co It is now known as “Goober Peas Inc.” ROBBY BLAIR is the owner of Popsics Tavern, and right beside Rob’s new store I see BECKY GONZALES and TERESA MORENO arc the owners of Bayard's new flower shop called. The Shop on the Corner. They report their sales have been very high. KURT FRAKES is now president of a T-shirt company which manufactures T-shirts with the slogan “Bald is Beautiful!” CHRIS CONNOR is now appearing at Bob and Vi’s Grain Exchange as a one man band, because it seems no one else wanted to join. ODE I IA HERNANDEZ is now taking over the old Vern’s Barbershop. It is now called “Dee’s Snip and Cut.” I see that BRENDA STUART and CHARLES THOMAS have now opened a new shop specializing for people who are very shy. It is called the “Shy Shop” and is located in Cheyenne. There arc a lot of happily married couples that came out of our class. RUSS SMITH and TAMMY SHERFEY arc a part of the group. Russ and Tammy are raising crops, cows, and kids. DAN COOLIDGE is also in that group. He is married to Tomi Schneider, but Dan was recently voted biggest flirt of Bayard's Carpenters Union. KATHI LAEGER is happily married to Bob MeMurtry, the electrician. It seems they really get a charge out of life. ALAN CARTER and Anya Pettyjohn are now married. The couple have a family of six, consisting of themselves and four children: Amy, Jimmy, Rosclyn, and Billy. The couple resides on a farm near MeGrew. CHARMEEN BROWN, who now has a full head of gray hair, is engaged to marry a Mr. Black and is planning to live in Greenland. In the sports section I read that PEGGY JOHANNSEN has now made it into pro basketball and has become the first female member of the L.A. Lakers It seems no one has heard from MICHELLE BIBBEY since the senior ski trip, but rumor has it that she is still up at the ski resort trying to get off the lift. PAM BECKER is now racing at the Indianapolis 500 and is the first woman ever to win it two times straight, and is now trying for her third time. BRAD SCHWAB really made it big, he is now the star football player at MeGrew University, with Brenda as his faithful cheerleader. In the county court news I was shocked to see who the new state trooper was. It was GREG REICHERT. I Ic had given a ticket to an cxclassmatc. SARAH OCHOA. It seems she is constantly getting stopped by policemen for driving her blue station wagon, which is now held together by plastic tape and krazy glue. Unfortunately, the cops can never get a word in edgewise. Another case is really kind of funny. It seems ANN MUHR and DAN TWOMBLY. who arc now married, arc in a court ease with the City of Bayard concerning a “parking” meter which was installed in front of Ann's house. In other news. LAURIE METER and JACKIE STERKEL are still going to Bridgeport every weekend to enjoy the sights; while GREG MUHR and RICK ROBINSON are still hanging around Bayard trying to impress the girls with their great driving ability. SAM ADAMS did not even make it to graduation because he is still sleeping in the back row in Mrs. Witt’s English class. TULA A NEST is now comedy producer for Steve Martin and still telling her own jokes. In her spare time she takes care of her pig farm west of Bayard. In the advertising section I see two familiar names. MARJORY ARENDS is now a model for “Long and Silky” shampoo, while JIM KAPPEN has designed a new line of jeans that feature reinforced back pockets that don’t show ’ wear.” And on the very last page I read that WADE WILLEY still attends church every Sunday with his parents, confessing his wrong doings from the previous week—which takes hours. Well, this was the outcome of the class of 1980. so I put the paper in the trash can and drove away, wondering what the outcome would be in another ten years. 14
