With only six seniors graduating, eighteen seasoned lettermen will be ready for action next year. The '73 gridders wrapped up a 4-4 record. Although it was not a winning season, neither was it a losing one. Senior Dave IMuss, the Tigers starting wingback, summed up what was this year's squad: We had unity and pride; I think we were closer as a team than in previous years. 38 in c R 0 S S FRONT ROW: Zefe Laborico, Frank Lopez, Abel Serda. C 0 u N T R Y Dave Petersen pulling out to pass, The Cross Country team had a very successful year with 5 letter winners, those being Zefe Laborico, Frank Lopez, Dave Petersen, Scott Randall, and Abel Serda. Laborico came through with first place at the Kimball meet and continued with a first at the District meet held in Bridgeport. He ran 2.5 miles with a time of 13.12. Frank Lopez also came through at District with a time of 13.26, placing him third. Both Laborico and Lopez qualified for the State meet held at Kearney. Laborico ended up with fourth place and Lopez with eighth place putting Bayard as sixth out of all the other teams. One of the outstanding things about the State meet was that Bayard was the only team to have two boys in the top ten. As a whole, the team is improving year by year and looking forward to an ever better season next year. That's fancy footwork Scott, but aren't you supposed to touch the ground? STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council, composed of ambitious representatives from the senior high school, succeeded in accomplishing numerous feats this school year. They revised the old dress code and made the new dress code more lenient to satisfy the student body. Courtesy passes were issued to all eligible senior citizens for admittance to any school sponsored activity. A gas raffle was also sponsored by the Student Council. Tickets were sold for one dollar each. The winner of the contest, Adam Heimbuck, won one hundred gallons of gasoline. All in all, it was a very rewarding year for the Student Council members. OFFICERS The music played at the Christmas concert put the spirit of Christmas in everyone's heart. The Bayard High School Band started off their year with a half time show at the Bayard-Bridgeport game. Altogether this year they performed at three homes games. Even though the marching was not perfection, the members all worked hard to further the spirit of the team and its supporters. Numerous ac tivities in which the band participated were Chadron Band Day, Fort Collins Band Day, and the Save the Zoo parade. Also this year, they attended Panhandle Clinic, District Contest and held several concerts. 63 FRONT ROW: D. Shadegg, D. Rischling, L. Michael, J. Shadegg. BACK ROW: T. Tafoya, C. Rischling, L. With this wide range of schools to compete against, we met more varied opposition, enabling our club to become more rounded and more competitive. One of our drawbacks in contests is our small number of members, so we would like to see some new interest in Forensics in the future. Our core of seniors has been a Dan Shadegg becoming thoroughly involved in his speech. At contests, members participated in everything from serious drama to humorous after-dinner speaking. SPANISH CLUB was always a large turn-out for them, and we had a hard time supplying enough tacos to go around. Also on the menu were tos-tadas, enchiladas, burritos, sopaipallas, fried beans, and, naturally, lots of hot sauce. Through cooperation and enthusiasm, we had a very successful year. Spanish Club this year is bigger than it ever was before. Membership totals approximately thirty-five, including a lot of young members. Under the leadership of Mrs. McPeek, we have had some very successful moneymaking projects. These, of course, were the Spanish food sales, which were so popular with all the students. AN EIFFEL TOWER, SIDEWALK CAFES 1974 The theme for Prom 1974 was Evening in Paris. The Junior-Senior Banquet began with Linda Fyfe giving grace, followed by the appearance of French waiters and waitresses, who served a delicious meal. Steve Shaw, master of ceremonies, introduced the after-dinner speaker, Mr. Ish Schmidt. After hearing Mr. Schmidt, everyone hurried to go get their dates for the big dance. The gym was decorated with a miniature Eiffel Tower, and sidewalk cafes. The band Buck provided the music for the night. At 12:30 a.m. the dancing came to an end, as did another Prom. But the evening was not over yet. Everyone headed out for the breakfast served by junior mothers. Prom night ended with everyone going their separate ways in the wee hours of the morning. Singers, K. In Tiger Tracks 174 , as in any such book, the main joy in reading it is all the pleasant Imemories that its contents bring back. For all readers each page should bring joy in the remembrance of days gone by, fun that we've had, and memories wc share. The Tiger has guided you through many happy times. He has shared with you the joy of victory and the agony of defeat that was experienced in all our sports events and in other areas such as speech, music, and scholastic contests. He let you in again on the fun during Homecoming, the excitement of the 1974 Banquet and Prom, and the thrill and relief of Commencement. He displayed some of the talents we mustered up in the Junior Class Play and in the Musical. He also showed all of us some of the ins and outs, the ups and downs of our daily routines at school. However, the main purpose of the Tiger and our book was to give you a memory of this year that you may keep forever-and we hope that you do. AUTOGRAPHS 93 AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS 95 AUTOGRAPHS I 96
