1-.47 Qi! 34 FN Total War The schools cannot remain aloof from total war. In the struggle between slave totalitarianism and free democracy it is the function of the school to inculcate in Youth the desire to protect and to extend the principles of Americanism. It is the duty of the school to bring to those under its care the loyalties, the knowledge, and the intelligent obedience with- out which no free nation can survive. It is the obligation of the school to prepare the rising generation for the war-torn world which it is about to enter and for the peace which it will need to make. Total war, which has for its objective the preservation of the American way of life, needs the sup- port and the cooperation of the young men and young women of tomorrow if it is to achieve complete victory. Bay View, in its classes and in its extra-curricular activities, is geared to the war effort. A practical application, demanded by the times, has been given to all courses. But since scientific equipment alone cannot bring true victory, every effort is made to enable students to gain a clear perception of national ideals, to imbue them with a feeling of patriotic pride in country, to make available knowledge which will prepare them for the sacrifices which are demanded-knowledge which will instill in them an eagerness to make such sacrifices.
